- Two cases of Ramsay-Hunt syndrome following varicella zoster viral meningitis in young immunocompetent men: case reports. [Journal Article]BMC Neurol. 2023 Jan 27; 23(1):43.BN
- CONCLUSIONS: These cases confirmed that RHS and CNS infections can co-exist even in young adults with normal immune function and more importantly, that CNS infection can precede RHS. Since early detection and treatment of RHS improve the prognosis, it is critical to closely monitor patients with VZV meningitis or encephalitis considering the possible superimposition of RHS.

- Surgical Management in Herpes Simplex Encephalitis: Illustrative Case Report and Systematic Review of the Literature. [Journal Article]Neurosurgery. 2023 Jan 19 [Online ahead of print]N
- CONCLUSIONS: Surgical treatment can be a useful adjunct for treatment of HSVE. There is substantial variability in the timing of surgical decompression in patients with HSVE, which can be necessary up to approximately 3 weeks after illness onset. ATL should be considered for refractory status epilepticus in HSVE with a unilateral seizure focus.

- Cytomegalovirus Anterior Uveitis: Clinical Manifestations, Diagnosis, Treatment, and Immunological Mechanisms. [Review]
- Little is known regarding anterior uveitis (AU), the most common ocular disease associated with cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection in immunocompetent populations. CMV AU is highly prevalent in Asia, with a higher incidence in men. Clinically, it manifests mainly as anterior chamber inflammation and elevated intraocular pressure (IOP). Acute CMV AU may resemble Posner-Schlossman syndrome with its rec…

- Evaluation of Histone Demethylase Inhibitor ML324 and Acyclovir against Cyprinid herpesvirus 3 Infection. [Journal Article]
- Cyprinid herpesvirus 3 (CyHV-3) can cause severe disease in koi and common carp (Cyprinus carpio). Currently, no effective treatment is available against CyHV-3 infection in koi. Both LSD1 and JMJD2 are histone demethylases (HD) and are critical for immediate-early (IE) gene activation essential for lytic herpesvirus replication. OG-L002 and ML324 are newly discovered specific inhibitors of LSD1 …

- Antiviral Activity of Benzoheterocyclic Compounds from Soil-Derived Streptomyces jiujiangensis NBERC-24992. [Journal Article]
- Pseudorabies virus (PRV) is a pathogen that causes Aujeszky's disease (AD) in animals, leading to huge economic losses to swine farms. In order to discover anti-PRV compounds, we studied the extracts of the strain Streptomyces jiujiangensis NBERC-24992, which showed significant anti-PRV activity. Eight benzoheterocyclic secondary metabolites, including three new compounds (1-3, virantmycins D-G) …

- Bilateral Thygeson's Superficial Punctate Keratitis with Dendritic Corneal Lesion: A Case Report. [Case Reports]
- Thygeson's superficial punctate keratitis (TSPK) is a recurrent bilateral corneal epithelial disease. Typically, small, multiple discrete epithelial lesions occur in the central cornea. However, dendritic corneal lesions are rare. Herein, we report a rare case of TSPK in both eyes after a unilateral dendritic corneal lesion. A 42-year-old woman presented with decreased vision and foreign body sen…

- CONCLUSIONS: Development of AKI was often observed in the absence of TLS in patients with MM after treatment with bortezomib. In addition, the risk factors of AKI and TLS varied widely. These findings indicate the potential nephrotoxicity of bortezomib irrespective of TLS in patients with decreased kidney function.

- BACKGROUND Herpes zoster is a condition in which there is reactivation of varicella zoster virus (VZV), which is usually seen in the elderly and those with immunocompromised states. Recently, however, there have been many reports of herpes zoster after administration of COVID-19 vaccines, although initial trials showed that these vaccines have good safety and immunogenicity profiles. Little is known about this effect on commonly used anti-infectives. This study aimed to explore the association between different stages of gastrointestinal mucositis, drug exposure, and gut microbiota. A prospectiv…

These data suggest that pretransplant ganciclovir with preemptive therapy for viral reactivation may be a useful strategy to reduce CMV reactivation. Future prospective trials are needed to compare strategies for CMV prophylaxis.
