  • A RANKL Wrinkle: Denosumab-Induced Hypocalcemia. [Case Reports]
J Med Toxicol 2016; 12(3):305-8Laskowski LK, Goldfarb DS, … Smith SW
  • The human monoclonal antibody denosumab inhibits osteoclast-mediated bone resorption by binding to receptor activator of nuclear factor κB ligand (RANKL), which is upregulated by tumor cells. Denosumab is indicated to prevent skeletal-related events (SREs) from osteoporosis and metastatic bone disease. We report a case of denosumab-induced hypocalcemia to highlight potential toxicity and treatmen…
  • Radiological Features of Long-Standing Hypoparathyroidism. [Case Reports]
Pol J Radiol 2016; 81:42-5John DR, Suthar PP
  • CONCLUSIONS: Idiopathic hypoparathyroidism is a rare endocrine disorder with clinic and biochemical features of hypocalcemia. Long- standing hypoparathyroidism can cause spondyloarthropathic changes closely resembling ankylosing spondylitis and DISH. Skeletal changes of long-standing hypoparathyroidism are irreversible. If left untreated, life-threatening complications like cardiac arrhythmias and broncholaryngospasm may occur.
