  • Organic Functionalized Graphene Oxide Behavior in Water. [Journal Article]
    Nanomaterials (Basel). 2020 Jun 24; 10(6)Kim C, Lee J, … Fortner J
  • Surface modified graphene oxide (GO) has received broad interest as a potential platform material for sensors, membranes, and sorbents, among other environmental applications. However, compared to parent (unmodified) GO, there is a dearth of information regarding the behavior of subsequently (secondary) modified GO, other than bulk natural organic matter (NOM) coating(s). Here, we systematically …
  • Bioactive Compounds, Pharmacological Actions, and Pharmacokinetics of Wormwood (Artemisia absinthium). [Review]
    Antibiotics (Basel). 2020 Jun 23; 9(6)Batiha GE, Olatunde A, … Rivero-Perez N
  • Plants have been used since ancient times to cure certain infectious diseases, and some of them are now standard treatments for several diseases. Due to the side effects and resistance of pathogenic microorganisms to antibiotics and most drugs on the market, a great deal of attention has been paid to extracts and biologically active compounds isolated from plant species used in herbal medicine. A…
  • Ultrafast Growth of a Cu(OH)2-CuO Nanoneedle Array on Cu Foil for Methanol Oxidation Electrocatalysis. [Journal Article]
ACS Appl Mater Interfaces. 2020 Jun 04 [Online ahead of print]Anantharaj S, Sugime H, Noda S
  • A swift potentiostatic anodization method for growing a 5-7 μm tall nanoneedle array of Cu(OH)2-CuO on Cu foil within 100 s has been developed. This catalytic electrode when screened for methanol oxidation electrocatalysis in 1 M KOH with 0.5 M methanol, delivered a current density as high as 70 ± 10 mA cm-2 at 0.65 V versus Hg/HgO which is superior to the performance of many related catalysts re…
  • Ischemia/Reperfusion Injury: Pathophysiology, Current Clinical Management, and Potential Preventive Approaches. [Review]
Mediators Inflamm. 2020; 2020:8405370.Sánchez-Hernández CD, Torres-Alarcón LA, … Peón AN
  • Myocardial ischemia reperfusion syndrome is a complex entity where many inflammatory mediators play different roles, both to enhance myocardial infarction-derived damage and to heal injury. In such a setting, the establishment of an effective therapy to treat this condition has been elusive, perhaps because the experimental treatments have been conceived to block just one of the many pathogenic p…
  • Constraints on Lorentz Invariance Violation from HAWC Observations of Gamma Rays above 100 TeV. [Journal Article]
    Phys Rev Lett. 2020 Apr 03; 124(13):131101.Albert A, Alfaro R, … HAWC Collaboration
  • Because of the high energies and long distances to the sources, astrophysical observations provide a unique opportunity to test possible signatures of Lorentz invariance violation (LIV). Superluminal LIV enables the decay of photons at high energy. The high altitude water Cherenkov (HAWC) observatory is among the most sensitive gamma-ray instruments currently operating above 10 TeV. HAWC finds ev…
  • Elimination of elemental mercury in flue gas by Arachis hypogaea Linn. shell generated activated carbon. [Journal Article]
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2020 Jun; 27(16):20055-20065.Duan X, Yuan CG, … Xie J
  • It is very necessary to produce bio-activated carbon for special use with easy procedure and low cost. One kind of huge surface area microporous bio-material was successfully prepared from agricultural residues (peanut shell, Arachis hypogaea Linn.) and beneficially applied to control elemental mercury (Hg0) in simulated coal-fired flue gas in this study. The possible effects of experimental fact…

  • Hepatic Glucose Output Inhibition by Mexican Plants Used in the Treatment of Type 2 Diabetes. [Journal Article]
    Front Pharmacol. 2020; 11:215.Mata-Torres G, Andrade-Cetto A, … Cárdenas-Vázquez R
  • De novo hepatic glucose production or hepatic gluconeogenesis is the main contributor to hyperglycemia in the fasting state in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) owing to insulin resistance, which leads to at least twice as much glucose synthesis compared to healthy subjects. Therefore, control of this pathway is a promising target to avoid the chronic complications associated with elevated gluc…
  • Dyspnea in antiphospholipid syndrome: Beyond pulmonary embolism. [Case Reports]
    Rev Port Cardiol. 2020 Jan; 39(1):47.e1-47.e5.Sepúlveda C, Repolho D, … Loureiro MJ
  • Pulmonary embolism due to primary antiphospholipid syndrome is rarely associated with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension, and therefore according to the latest guidelines on pulmonary hypertension, routine screening is not recommended. We describe a young patient with a late diagnosis of chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension in the context of pulmonary embolism, primary antipho…
  • FeO-Based Hierarchical Structures on FTO Substrates and Their Photocurrent. [Journal Article]
    ACS Omega. 2020 Feb 11; 5(5):2205-2213.Xia W, Sun J, … Yu H
  • As one of the most promising photoanode materials for photoelectrochemical (PEC) water oxidation, earth-abundant hematite has been severely restricted by its poor electrical conductivity, poor charge separation, and sluggish oxygen evolution reaction kinetics. FeO has an ability to produce hydrogen, while its preparation needs high temperature to reduce Fe3+ to Fe2+ by using H2 or CO gases. Here,…
  • Multiple Galactic Sources with Emission Above 56 TeV Detected by HAWC. [Journal Article]
Phys Rev Lett. 2020 Jan 17; 124(2):021102.Abeysekara AU, Albert A, … HAWC Collaboration
  • We present the first catalog of gamma-ray sources emitting above 56 and 100 TeV with data from the High Altitude Water Cherenkov Observatory, a wide field-of-view observatory capable of detecting gamma rays up to a few hundred TeV. Nine sources are observed above 56 TeV, all of which are likely galactic in origin. Three sources continue emitting past 100 TeV, making this the highest-energy gamma-…
  • Reduced Holey Graphene Oxide Membranes for Desalination with Improved Water Permeance. [Journal Article]
    ACS Appl Mater Interfaces. 2020 Jan 08; 12(1):1387-1394.Chen X, Feng Z, … Lin H
  • Reduced graphene oxide (r-GO) membranes with narrow channels exhibit salt rejections comparable to conventional nanofiltration (NF) membranes. However, their water permeances are much lower because of the high tortuosity for water permeation. Herein, we report a facile solution-processable approach to create in-plane nanopores on GO nanosheets before reduction, dramatically decreasing the tortuos…
  • Recurrent midgut volvulus in an adult patient - The case for pexy? A case report and review of the literature. [Case Reports]
Int J Surg Case Rep. 2020; 66:91-95.Ferreira MS, Simões J, … Costa PM
  • CONCLUSIONS: Reports of midgut volvulus in adult patients are scarce and reports of recurrence even scarcer hence the rate of recurrence among adult patients has yet to be determined. The recurrence rate in some of the available adult series is much higher than the rate reported among children. Should the rate of recurrence among adult patients prove higher, it poses the question of whether the Ladd procedure should be modified to include bowel fixation when performed in adults.
