  • EVA technology and proteomics: a two-pronged attack on Cultural Heritage. [Journal Article]
J Proteome Res. 2020 May 22 [Online ahead of print]Righetti PG, Zilberstein G, Zilberstein S
  • A novel way for exploring the world Cultural Heritage in the absence of damage or contamination of the items under investigation is here reported, called the EVA technique. It is based on films of ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) impregnated with strong anion and cation exchangers, admixed with hydrophobic resins, C8 and C18. When in contact with any surface these films can harvest nano-moles of macr…
  • Indicators of Abnormal Hand Grip Strength Among Older Egyptian Adults. [Journal Article]
J Multidiscip Healthc. 2020; 13:387-392.Elbedewy RMS, El Said SMS, Taha RM
  • CONCLUSIONS: The best indicators of abnormal HGS were found to be a general health score below 25 points on the SF-12 and a height of less than 178 cm. As the values of general health and height decrease below those cut-off points, HGS decreases as well, and vice versa.
  • Involvement of CASP9 (caspase 9) in IGF2R/CI-MPR endosomal transport. [Journal Article]
    Autophagy. 2020 May 25 [Online ahead of print]Han J, Goldstein LA, … Rabinowich H
  • Recently, we reported that increased expression of CASP9 pro-domain, at the endosomal membrane in response to HSP90 inhibition, mediates a cell-protective effect that does not involve CASP9 apoptotic activity. We report here that a non-apoptotic activity of endosomal membrane CASP9 facilitates the retrograde transport of IGF2R/CI-MPR from the endosomes to the trans-Golgi network, indicating the i…
  • TOP2A Promotes Tumorigenesis of High-grade Serous Ovarian Cancer by Regulating the TGF-β/Smad Pathway. [Journal Article]
    J Cancer. 2020; 11(14):4181-4192.Gao Y, Zhao H, … Yue W
  • Background: High-grade serous ovarian cancer (HGS) is the most aggressive form of ovarian cancer due to its rapid spread, insidious onset, and early dissemination throughout the abdominal cavity. However, the molecular pathogenesis of HGS remains unclear. This study aimed to identify key pathogenic genes and explore the underlying molecular mechanisms of HGS using bioinformatics analysis and bio…
  • Are We Missing the Opportunity to Measure Muscle Mass on Computed Tomography Thorax? [Journal Article]
    J Thorac Imaging. 2020 Apr 28 [Online ahead of print]Bryl B, Merrix S, … Duckers J
  • Hand grip strength (HGS) and fat free mass index (FFMI) are important indicators of skeletal muscle mass and correlate with prognosis in patients with respiratory diseases. It is also possible to estimate muscle mass by measuring muscle density and volume on cross sectional imaging. We reviewed all patients of the All Wales Cystic Fibrosis Centre who had a computed tomography thorax as part of ro…
  • Cardiac Manifestations of Sarcopenia. [Journal Article]
    J Nutr Health Aging. 2020; 24(5):478-484.Yang X, Woo J, … Fung E
  • CONCLUSIONS: Community living older people with sarcopenia detected using a simple questionnaire have a higher prevalence of DD accompanied by elevated NT proBNP. Addition of hand grip strength or walking speed improve the magnitude of the association. SARC-F may be used as a tool to detect early cardiac dysfunction in the community.
  • Relationship Between Dysphagia and Sarcopenia with Comprehensive Geriatric Evaluation. [Journal Article]
    Dysphagia. 2020 Apr 27 [Online ahead of print]Fırat Ozer F, Akın S, … Erturk Zararsız G
  • Oropharyngeal dysphagia has features of geriatric syndromes and is strongly associated with sarcopenia. In this cross-sectional study, we aimed to evaluate the association between dysphagia and sarcopenia, in a practical way, accompanied by comprehensive geriatric assessment. Dysphagia and sarcopenia were defined by the EAT-10 and SARC-F questionnaires, respectively. Cognition and mood, was evalu…
