- CONCLUSIONS: We describe here the case of a young male patient with GD. For the treatment of hyperthyroidism, thioamides are effective options. Agranulocytosis induced by ATDs is a rare complication defined as the occurrence of a granulocyte count <500/mm3 after the use of ATDs. PTU was suspended, and filgrastim and antibiotics were prescribed. Radioiodine (RAI) or surgery are therapeutic alternatives. Due to problems with ATD use, a total thyroidectomy was proposed. The preoperative preparation was performed with beta-blocker, glucocorticoid, lithium carbonate, and Lugol solution. Cholestyramine is also an option for controlling hyperthyroidism. TT was performed without postoperative complications.Thionamide-induced agranulocytosis is a rare complication. With a contraindication to ATDs, RAI and surgery are definitive therapeutic options in GD. Beta-blockers, glucocorticoids, lithium carbonate, iodine, and cholestyramine may be an adjunctive therapy for hyperthyroidism.

Giardiasis in children remains an urgent problem, the importance of which is determined by the endemicity for many countries and regions, polymorphism of the clinic, which causes difficulties in clinical diagnosis of this pathology. The report presents the results of the diagnostic significance of methods of laboratory diagnostics giardiase: microscopy of native and stained with Lugol solution preparation fecal enzyme-linked immunoassay (ELISA) for the presence of antibodies of class IgM and IgG antibodies to the antigens of Giardia in the serum and antigen of G. Lamblia in feces, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) - detection of Giardia DNA in feces obtained during the examination of 160 patients with giardiasis children aged 3 to 14 years. The results of our study suggest that the most informative methods of diagnosis of giardiasis in children is coproscopy (specificity - 96.2%, sensitivity - 98.1%), PCR coprofiltrate. (specificity - 85%, sensitivity 82.5%), determination of antigen in feces by ELISA (specificity - 87,5%, sensitivity - 60%). With high specificity of the blood ELISA method (90%), the sensitivity of the method is only 27.5%. It should be recognized that the «gold standard» diagnosis of giardiasis remains microscopy of native and stained with a solution of Lugol preparation of feces with a three - time study at intervals of 2-3 days.

Microcomputed tomography (μCT) is widely used for the study of mineralized tissues, but a similar use for soft tissues is hindered by their low X-ray attenuation. This limitation can be overcome by the recent development of different staining techniques. Staining with Lugol's solution, a mixture of one part iodine and two parts potassium iodide in water, stands out among these techniques for its low complexity and cost. Currently, Lugol staining is mostly used for anatomical examination of tissues. In the present study, we seek to optimize the quality and reproducibility of the staining for ex vivo visualization of soft tissues in the context of a peripheral nerve regeneration model in the rat. We show that the staining result not only depends on the concentration of the staining solution but also on the amount of stain in relation to the tissue volume and composition, necessitating careful adaptation of the staining protocol to the respective specimen tissue. This optimization can be simplified by a stepwise staining which we show to yield a similar result compared to staining in a single step. Lugol staining solution results in concentration-dependent tissue shrinkage which can be minimized but not eliminated. We compared the shrinkage of tendon, nerve, skeletal muscle, heart, brain, and kidney with six iterations of Lugol staining. 60 ml of 0.3% Lugol's solution per cm3 of tissue for 24 h yielded good results on the example of a peripheral nerve regeneration model, and we were able to show that the regenerating nerve inside a silk fibroin tube can be visualized in 3D using this staining technique. This information helps in deciding the region of interest for histological imaging and provides a 3D context to histological findings. Correlating both imaging modalities has the potential to improve the understanding of the regenerative process.

- CONCLUSIONS: Forty-eight women with suspicious pre-cancerous or cancerous lesions were successfully identified using the "screen and treat" approach in eastern DRC, suggesting that this approach is feasible for reducing cervical cancer morbidity and mortality. However, community awareness would be necessary, providers would have to be properly trained, referral and follow up mechanisms would have to be put in place, and equipment / supplies would have to be secured if the "screen and treat" approach is to be successful on a wider scale. There is ongoing need for HPV vaccination in DRC as a primary prevention strategy against cervical cancer.

Comparative, functional, developmental, and some morphological studies on animal anatomy require accurate visualization of three-dimensional structures. Nowadays, several widely applicable methods exist for non-destructive whole-mount imaging of animal tissues. The purpose of this study was to optimize specimen preparation and develop a method for quantitative analysis of the total pulmonary vasculature in fetal rats. Tissues were harvested at E21 and fetuses fixed overnight in 4% paraformaldehyde/phosphate buffered saline. They were treated with 25% Lugol solution for 72 hours to ensure perfusion. Four different methods were used for fetal specimen preparation; isolated lung, upper torso, direct right ventricle contrast injection, and whole body with partial thoracic skin excision. The microCT scan was performed, and pulmonary vasculature was segmented. Vessels were analyzed for diameter, length, and branching. Of the four preparation methods, only whole body with partial thoracic skin excision resulted in adequate reconstruction of the pulmonary vasculature. In silico generated 3D images gathered by micro CT showed pulmonary vasculature distributed throughout the lung, which was representative of the shape and structure of the lungs. The mean number of vessels segmented in the pulmonary tree was 900 ± 24 with a mean diameter of 134.13 µm (range 40.72-265.69 µm). While up to the 30th generation of vessels could be segmented, both for arteries and veins, the majority of branching was between the 21st and 30th generations. Passive diffusion of contrast material enables quantitative analysis of the fetal pulmonary vasculature. This technique is a useful tool to analyze the characteristics and quantify the fetal pulmonary vasculature.

- CONCLUSIONS: Micro-CT imaging of the early fetal brain is feasible and provides high-quality images that correlate with the histological Atlas of the human brain, offering multiplanar and volumetric images that can be stored and shared for clinical, teaching, and research purposes.
