- A comprehensive overview of monkeypox virus disease. [Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: Globally, the decline in public immunity following the cessation of routine smallpox vaccination, together with ongoing viral evolution, may have contributed to the resurgence of mpox. Advances in genomic surveillance, diagnostics, and public health preparedness have strengthened outbreak response; however, important gaps remain in understanding long-term immunity and optimal treatment strategies. This review summarizes current evidence on MPXV and mpox and highlights priorities for future research and public health interventions.

- Monkeypox Virus Countermeasures: Vaccines, Antibodies, Drugs and Traditional Chinese Medicine. [Review]
- Monkeypox virus (MPXV) has garnered global attention in recent years. MPXV is a DNA virus that is categorized as belonging to the Orthopoxvirus, exhibiting close genetic and structural similarities to variola virus (VARV) and vaccinia virus (VACV). Despite the World Health Organization (WHO) announcing in 2023 that the global outbreak of monkeypox (mpox) is no longer a public health emergency, th…

- Evaluating search-enabled large language model interfaces for mpox public health consultation: a guideline-based comparative study. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: The evaluated search-enabled LLM interfaces showed heterogeneous performance across safety, accuracy, empathy, reliability/information quality, and readability. Although unsafe responses were relatively uncommon, potentially harmful outputs occurred in every interface. These findings support the need for guideline-based evaluation, source transparency, readability optimization, and robust safety safeguards when such interfaces are evaluated or considered for mpox-related public health consultation. The results represent a time- and configuration-specific interface-level snapshot; they should not be attributed to the underlying base models in isolation or interpreted as establishing reproducible performance or a stable hierarchy across sessions, versions, or settings.

- Temporal, seasonal, and spatial patterns of Mpox in the DRC, 2002-2022: longitudinal surveillance study. [Journal Article]J Infect Dev Ctries. 2026 Aug 31; 20(8):1225-1234.JI
- CONCLUSIONS: Mpox remains persistently endemic in the DRC, with progressive geographic expansion. These findings underscore the need for sustained surveillance, strengthened community engagement, and targeted prevention strategies embedded within a broader One Health framework to address zoonotic and ecological drivers of transmission.

- APOBEC3-driven attenuation of the 2022 global outbreak monkeypox virus relative to its clade IIb ancestor. [Journal Article]
- Monkeypox virus (MPXV) is a zoonotic virus endemic to Africa that has recently re-emerged, becoming the first orthopoxvirus with sustained human-to-human transmission since smallpox eradication. The 2022 global epidemic of MPXV was caused by Clade IIb virus (lineage B.1) that derived from the lineage A endemic to West Africa through APOBEC3 microevolution[1-3]. Here, comparison of lineage B.1 vir…

- Genomic Epidemiology and Clinical Characteristics of Mpox Lineage C.1 Outbreak in Thailand, 2023-2024. [Journal Article]
- Since 2022, human monkeypox virus (hMPXV) has emerged in non-endemic regions, including Thailand. However, the genomic dynamics and clinical correlates of local transmission remain incompletely defined. Whole-genome sequencing was performed on hMPXV from 16 patients in Thailand (2023-2024) using targeted amplicon NGS. Phylogenetic analyses integrated global reference sequences. Mutational profile…

- In-silico Identification of Cyclic Peptide Inhibitors for A42r Profilin-like Protein from Monkeypox Virus. [Journal Article]Curr Drug Targets. 2026 Aug 30. [Online ahead of print]CD
- CONCLUSIONS: The objective of the present study was to identify cyclic peptides CycPept_3468 and CycPept_4348, which showed excellent inhibitory activity against the MPXV A42R profilin-like protein. The high binding affinity and structural stability of the peptides indicate their potential efficacy as antiviral drugs.

- Clinical, epidemiological, and genomic evidence on mpox in mainland China, 2022-2025: a scoping review. [Review]
- CONCLUSIONS: Available evidence indicates multi-lineage MPXV circulation and in mainland China, but interpretation remains constrained by uneven sequencing and lack of individual-level clinical-genomic linkage. Integrated genomic surveillance and standardized data linkage are needed to better characterize MPXV transmission and evolution.

- Longitudinal assessment of MPXV-specific IgG avidity in patients with Mpox infection. [Journal Article]
- Monkeypox virus (MPXV) infection induces robust humoral immune responses; however, the kinetics of IgG avidity maturation following natural infection remain poorly characterized. Since IgG avidity reflects antibody affinity maturation over time, its evaluation may provide additional information for the interpretation of MPXV serology and infection staging. This study longitudinally assessed MPXV-…

- One-Pot RPA-CRISPR/Cas12a Assay With Visual Readout for the Ultra-Specific Detection of Monkeypox Virus Clade I. [Journal Article]
- In 2024, Monkeypox virus (MPXV) clade I has triggered outbreaks in several countries world-wide. MPXV clade I demonstrates enhanced virulence and transmissibility, with a case fatality rate reaching 10%. In response, we have developed a one-pot detection assay specifically targeting MPXV clade I, combining recombinase polymerase amplification (RPA) and the CRISPR/Cas12a system. The assay can be c…

- Structure prediction and drug screening targeting monkeypox virus polymerase and surface proteins. [Journal Article]
- The global outbreak and ongoing spread of the monkeypox virus (MPXV) have highlighted the urgent need for effective antiviral therapeutics. Here, we integrated artificial intelligence-based protein structure prediction, large-scale virtual screening, and experimental validation to identify preliminary hit compounds targeting MPXV. Using AlphaFold2, we predicted high-accuracy structures for seven …

- Highly pathogenic airborne microorganisms pose a significant public health threat, particularly because their small particle size can support prolonged suspension and long-range transport. Here, we present an integrated platform that combines a composite bioaerosol collection system with a three-stage enrichment mechanism and recombinase polymerase amplification-CRISPR/Cas12a (RPA-CRISPR/Cas12a) …

- Structure and operating principles of a monkeypox virus replisome. [Journal Article]
- Poxviruses are double-stranded DNA viruses with large genomes. Among them, monkeypox virus (MPXV) has been responsible for two recent public health emergencies as declared by the World Health Organization[1]. The MPXV polymerase comprises three subunits-a catalytic subunit (F8) and a heterodimeric processivity factor (A22 and E4). The viral polymerase must coordinate activities with the hexameric…

- Mpox virus (MPXV) poses an increasing global health threat, as underscored by two World Health Organization declarations of Public Health Emergencies of International Concern, particularly after the emergence of a novel Clade Ib strain that exhibited high human-to-human transmissibility in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. However, the treatment options for MPXV infection remain extremely lim…

- Since the first confirmed case in 1970, the monkeypox virus (MPXV) has emerged as a significant threat to global public health. The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared it a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) on two occasions. Despite decades of research, only tecovirimat has been approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) for the treatment of MPXV infection. Th…
