- Tri-Net: unified deep learning for skin lesion and symptom-based monkeypox detection. [Journal Article]Sci Rep. 2026 Jul 13. [Online ahead of print]SR
- The recent re-emergence of Monkeypox emphasizes the critical importance of ensuring precise and prompt diagnostic capabilities. Traditional diagnosis typically depends on visually examining skin lesions and listening to patients describe their symptoms. However, this approach can be subjective and sometimes leads to misjudgment. To complicate matters further, Monkeypox shares many symptoms with o…

- Research Progress and Challenges of Anti-monkeypox Virus Drugs Targeting F13 Protein. [Review]J Med Chem. 2026 Jul 13. [Online ahead of print]JM
- F13 protein is highly conserved in orthopoxviruses and serves as a classic broad-spectrum antiviral target. Nevertheless, clinical trials prove tecovirimat has weak efficacy and poor resistance profile. F13 inhibitors only hinder EEV release to stop viral spread instead of suppressing replication, leaving IMV intact. Current improvements include domain optimization to enhance bioavailability, sim…

- Vaccinia virus and Monkeypox virus neutralizing and antigen-binding antibodies following subcutaneous and reduced intradermal doses of an MVA vaccine. [Journal Article]Vaccine. 2026 Jul 11; 88:128920. [Online ahead of print]V
- To expand the supply of the modified vaccinia Ankara (MVA) smallpox/mpox vaccine, fractional doses administered intradermally (ID) have been considered as alternatives to the standard dose given subcutaneously (SC). In a recent clinical trial, participants received the standard 10[8] infectious units of vaccine SC or a one-fifth (IDH) or a one-tenth (IDL) dose ID twice 28-days apart. Two weeks af…

- A hybrid machine learning framework with two-step feature selection for identifying key biomarkers and drug targets in monkeypox. [Journal Article]Biochem Biophys Rep. 2026 Sep; 47:102683.BB
- Monkeypox (Mpox) is a viral disease that has garnered global attention due to its human-to-human transmissibility and cross-species transmission. Recent outbreaks in both endemic and non-endemic regions highlight the urgent need to elucidate its molecular mechanisms and evolutionary dynamics. As of now, there are no approved antiviral therapies available for the treatment of Mpox. In this work, w…

- Prolonged mpox infection and fatal outcome in an HIV patient treated with tecovirimat. [Case Reports]Int J Infect Dis. 2026 Jul 10; :108972. [Online ahead of print]IJ
- We report a prolonged 59-day MPXV infection in a highly immunocompromised HIV-positive patient. We found progressive within-host viral diversification across lesions from different anatomical sites, including the emergence of a mutation previously associated with tecovirimat resistance. These findings highlight the need to investigate alternative therapeutic strategies for MPXV in severely immuno…

- Developing a Data Set for Mpox Disease: A Scoping Review and Consensus-based Classification. [Journal Article]J Infect Dev Ctries. 2026 Jun 30; 20(6):792-801.JI
- CONCLUSIONS: Identifying the data set is crucial to improving the public health responses to Mpox outbreaks. It will enable healthcare professionals and researchers to enhance disease monitoring and control efforts globally. Future studies should validate the data set in diverse settings, adapt it to the disease's evolving nature, and integrate it into health information systems for real-time data utilization.

- Knowledge and attitudes of the community toward human mpox virus infection in, Oromia, Ethiopia: a community-based cross-sectional study. [Journal Article]Sci Rep. 2026 Jul 09. [Online ahead of print]SR
- Human Monkeypox is a smallpox-like zoonotic infection transmitted through animals, contaminated objects, or human contact, posing growing public health risks. Despite its declaration as a global health emergency in 2022, community awareness remains limited in Ethiopia's Oromia region, where ecological and socioeconomic factors heighten vulnerability. Thus, this community-based cross-sectional stu…

- Monkeypox (Mpox) is a zoonotic disease caused by MPXV and remains a threat to global public health. MPXV Clade Ib has higher mortality, whereas Clade IIb exhibits widespread international transmission. WHO has twice designated mpox epidemics as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC). This highlights that the virus is not only pathogenic but also has the potential to cause a gl…

- Who got vaccinated for mpox? A cross-sectional survey on behavioral correlates of vaccine uptake among men who have sex with men attending an STI/HIV reference center in Rome, Italy. [Journal Article]BMC Infect Dis. 2026 Jul 06. [Online ahead of print]BI
- CONCLUSIONS: Among MSM participants in our survey, mpox vaccination uptake was reported by only about one quarter of the individuals. Uptake was independently and positively associated with both chemsex and HIV-PrEP use, with HIV-PrEP showing the strongest association. Overall uptake remains suboptimal, highlighting persistent gaps in mpox vaccination coverage among individuals at higher risk. This underscores the need to reinforce integrated combination-prevention pathways in HIV/STI services, also in the context of HIV PrEP continuum.
