Nowdays, much attention is paid to the study of disorders of immune regulation and methods of effective immune correction in athletes. In this regard, the use of specialized sport foods (SSF), containing nutrients with immunomodulatory properties, is of particular relevance in youth sports. The aim of the work is to study the immunomodulating activity of L-carnitine and coenzyme Q10 in junior athletes during the training period. Material and methods. The object of the study were 30 junior athletes (masters of sports and candidates for masters of sports in swimming) aged 14-18 years, including 9 girls and 21 boys. Athletes were divided into 3 groups of 10 people each. Athletes of the 1st and 2nd main groups received L-carnitine (600 mg per day) and coenzyme Q10 (60 mg/day), respectively, for 4 weeks in addition to the basic diet. The dosage of SSF used in the study was 200% of the adequate level of consumption and did not exceed the upper permissible level of consumption. Athletes of the 3rd group (control) received only basic diet without sports' nutrition. Examination of athletes of all groups was performed at the beginning and after 4 weeks of the observation period. Results and discussion. As a result of a comprehensive survey of junior athletes, the positive effect of L-carnitine intake on erythrocyte hemoglobin content (30.2±0.4 vs 28.3±0.3 pg at the beginning) was observed. The relative content of basophilic leukocytes in athletes of the main groups statistically significantly decreased by the end of the observation period: in the L-carnitine group, from 0.64±0.05 to 0.45±0.04%, in the coenzyme Q10 group, from 0.66±0.07 to 0.50±0.04%, which indicated an increase in the body's resistance to allergic reactions. Conclusion. The biomarkers of the immunotropic effect of L-carnitine and coenzyme Q10 are a decrease in the expression of the apoptotic marker CD95/Fas on peripheral blood lymphocytes and suppression of the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines synthesized by Th1-lymphocytes with switching the response to humoral immunity. An evidence base for the effectiveness of the use of L-carnitine and coenzyme Q10 in sports nutrition for restoring immune dysfunction and adaptive potential of junior athletes has been provided.

- CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest that SRM can be objectively recorded concurrently in both the brainstem and auditory cortex, it is speculated that the central auditory system can suppress background noise based on spatial information commencing from the brainstem and that this capability is remarkable in more difficulty listing situations. This study may pave the way to evaluate spatial processing electrophysiologically utilizing FFR amplitude, ABR and CAEPs latencies condition to confirmation of the results of current study, at least at the level of the cortex in future investigation.

Evidence suggests that blast exposure has profound negative consequences for the health of the human brain and that it may confer risk for the development of neurodegenerative diseases such as chronic traumatic encephalopathy and Alzheimer's disease (AD). Though the molecular mechanisms linking blast exposure to subsequent neurodegeneration is an active focus of research, recent studies suggest that genetic risk for AD may elevate the risk of neurodegeneration following traumatic brain injury (TBI). However, it is currently unknown if blast exposure also interacts with AD risk to promote neurodegeneration. In this study we examined whether apolipoprotein (APOE) ε4, a well-known genetic risk factor for AD, influenced the relationship between blast exposure and white matter integrity in a cohort of 200 Iraq and Afghanistan War veterans. Analyses revealed a significant interaction between close-range blast exposure (CBE; i.e., within 10 meters) and APOE ε4 carrier status in predicting white matter abnormalities, measured by a voxel-wise cluster-based method that captures spatial heterogeneity in white matter disruptions. This interaction remained significant after controlling for TBI, pointing to the specificity of CBE and APOE in white matter disruptions. Furthermore, among veteran ε4 carriers exposed to close-range blast, we observed a positive association between the number of CBEs and the number of white matter abnormalities. These results raise the possibility that CBE interacts with AD genetic influences on neuropathological processes such as the degradation of white matter integrity.

Freestanding (suspended) graphene films, with high electron mobility (up to ~200,000 cm2V-1s-1), good mechanical and electronic properties, could resolve many of the current issues that are hampering the upscaling of graphene technology. Thus far, attempts at reliably fabricating suspended graphene devices comprising metal contacts, have often been hampered by difficulties in exceeding sizes of 1 µm in diameter, if using UV lithography. In this work, area of suspended graphene large enough to be utilized in microelectronic devices, have been obtained by suspending a CVD graphene film over cavities, with top contacts defined through UV lithography with both wet and dry etching. An area of up to 160 µm2 can be fabricated as backgated devices. The suspended areas exhibit rippling of the surfaces which simultaneously introduces both tensile and compressive strain on the graphene film. Finally, the variations of the Fermi level in the suspended graphene areas can be modulated by applying a potential difference between the top contacts and the backgate. Having achieved large area suspended graphene, in a manner compatible with CMOS fabrication processes, together with enabling the modulation of the Fermi level, are substantial steps forward in demonstrating the potential of suspended graphene-based electronic devices and sensors.

Anxiety sensitivity (AS), namely the fear of anxiety symptoms, has been described as a precursor of sub-threshold anxiety levels. Sexton et al. (2003) posited that increased AS would arise from an elevated neuroticism and that both would act as vulnerability factors for panic disorder (PD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) symptoms. Accordingly, this study aimed to (1) evaluate the applicability of this model to a pediatric population and (2) examine the influences of the other Big-Five personality dimensions on the four lower-order dimensions of AS (cognitive, physical, control, and physical) and on social phobia (SP), separation anxiety disorder (SAD) and depression symptoms. 200 children (104 girls) aged between 8 and 12 years old (mean age = 132.52 months, SD = 14.5) completed the Childhood Anxiety Sensitivity Index (Silverman et al., 1991), the Big Five Questionnaire for Children (Barbaranelli et al., 2003), and the Revised's Children Anxiety and Depression Scale (Chorpita et al., 2000). Regression analyses confirmed that AS and neuroticism together significantly predicted the presence of PD, OCD, and GAD symptoms but also SP, SAD, and depression symptoms. Moreover, neuroticism interacted with extraversion, conscientiousness and agreeableness to significantly predict SP, GAD, and depression. Surprisingly, the global AS score was only predicted by agreeableness, while AS dimensions also specifically related to openness. Finally, AS dimensions did not predict the presence of specific anxiety symptoms. To conclude, the predicting model of anxiety symptoms in children sets neuroticism and AS on the same level, with an unexpected influence of agreeableness on AS, raising the importance of other trait-like factors in the definition of such models. Moreover, AS should be considered as a unitary construct when predicting the presence of anxiety symptoms in children. Future interventions must consider these associations to help children detect and recognize the symptoms of their anxiety and help them to interpret them correctly.

Systemic uncontrolled inflammatory response, also termed as sepsis, is responsible for many mortalities. Bacterial endotoxin, lipopolysaccharide (LPS), is a major cause of sepsis in endothelial cells. Even though a lot of research has been done to define underlying mechanisms of LPS induced sepsis, the role of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), a group of >200 kb RNAs in sepsis is not well-defined. Expression of pro-inflammatory mediators IL6, ICAM1, and VCAM1 (which encodes interleukin-6, intercellular adhesion molecule-1, and vascular cell adhesion molecule-1, respectively) were determined following LPS treatment of human dermal microvascular endothelial cells (HMECs) for 24 h to confirm sepsis induction. RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP) analysis was performed using the chromatin modifying proteins (CMPs), heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein (hnRNP) K and corepressors of the RE-1 silencing transcription factor (coREST) as individual baits. Quantitative real time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) was performed on RNA isolated from immunoprecipitated pellets for six different lncRNAs. The effect of the differentially expressed lncRNAs were determined by ectopic overexpression of the lncRNAs before induction of sepsis. Expression of IL6, ICAM1, and VCAM1 were significantly upregulated following treatment of the HMECs with LPS for 24 h confirming induction of sepsis. RIP and qRT-PCR analysis revealed that the lncRNAs HULC, UCA1, and MALAT-1 were significantly enriched with the CMPs after sepsis. RNA interference using siRNAs targeting HULC and UCA1, but not MALAT-1, decreased the expression of IL6, ICAM1, and VCAM1 to endogenous levels. Our results were further validated in an in vivo model of sub-lethal LPS-induced sepsis, whereby siRNA mediated knockdown of UCA1 and HULC lncRNAs prevented induction of VCAM1, ICAM1, and IL6, as assayed by immunohistochemistry. Cumulatively, these results suggest that LPS induced in vitro sepsis in endothelial cells and induction of pre-inflammatory mediators are at least in part due to increased expression of the UCA1 and HULC lncRNAs.
