  • Defensive peripersonal space is modified by a learnt protective posture. [Journal Article]
    Sci Rep 2019; 9(1):6739Biggio M, Bisio A, … Bove M
  • The Hand Blink Reflex (HBR) is a subcortical defensive response, elicited by the electrical stimulation of the median nerve. HBR increases when the stimulated hand is inside the defensive peripersonalspace (DPPS) of the face. However, the presence of a screen protecting the face could reduce the amplitude of this response. This work aimed to investigate whether the learning of a posture intended …
  • Approaching threatening stimuli cause an expansion of defensive peripersonal space. [Comment]
    J Neurophysiol 2017; 118(4):1927-1930Bufacchi RJ
  • When sudden environmental stimuli signaling threat occur in the portion of space surrounding the body (defensive peripersonal space), defensive responses are enhanced. Recently Bisio et al. (Bisio A, Garbarini F, Biggio M, Fossataro C, Ruggeri P, Bove M. J Neurosci 37: 2415-2424, 2017) showed that a marker of defensive peripersonal space, the defensive hand-blink reflex, is modulated by the motio…
  • Audiovestibular disorders in patients with ankylosing spondylitis. [Journal Article]
    J Clin Rheumatol 2005; 11(2):81-5Casellini C, Citera G, … Maldonado Cocco JA
  • CONCLUSIONS: Middle-aged patients with AS had a significantly higher frequency of SNHL compared with controls. SNHL should be considered as a possible complication of AS as well as of RA and other autoimmune diseases. Possible toxic effect of nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs should also be considered in such patients.
  • Botulinum toxin in upper limb spasticity: study of reciprocal inhibition between forearm muscles. [Clinical Trial]
    Neuroreport 1997; 8(14):3039-44Girlanda P, Quartarone A, … Messina C
  • To establish whether botulinum A toxin (BTX-A) acts on modifying reciprocal inhibition between forearm muscles in spasticity, 20 patients with post-stroke upper limb spasticity lasting for more than 1 year were studied. Clinical examination, physiotherapeutic evaluation, standardized video-tape assessment and electrophysiological testing (flexor carpi radialis muscle M and H responses with study …
