  • Expert Opinion on the Efficacy and Safety of Antispasmodics with a Focus on Irritable Bowel Syndrome. [Review]
    Turk J Gastroenterol. 2025 Nov 25; 36(Suppl 2):S1-S38.Bor S, Özen H, … Sakin YSTJ
  • Antispasmodics are commonly used to treat irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) symptoms. They are generally regarded as safe. However, some have been found to be ineffective or not cost-effective. Marked discrepancies in the availability and formulation of antispasmodic agents across countries—ranging from the limitation to only fundamental compounds in regions such as the United States to the marketing…
  • PET imaging of the anticancer drug candidate [[11]C]trimebutine in a rat glioma model. [Journal Article]

  • CONCLUSIONS: Trimebutine exhibits inhibitory effects on the growth and migration of glioma cells in a dose- and time-dependent manner. [[11]C]Trimebutine was able to penetrate the blood-brain barrier in rats and tracer uptake could be significantly reduced by administration of a μ-opioid receptor antagonist. However, [[11]C]trimebutine failed to selectively accumulate in orthotopic C6 glioma, which could be caused by low expression levels of the drug target in these tumors, or by fast metabolism of the tracer.
  • Trimebutine prevents corneal inflammation in a rat alkali burn model. [Journal Article]
    Sci Rep. 2024 May 27; 14(1):12111.Goto H, Arima T, … Okamoto FSR
  • Alkaline burns to the cornea lead to loss of corneal transparency, which is essential for normal vision. We used a rat corneal alkaline burn model to investigate the effect of ophthalmic trimebutine solution on healing wounds caused by alkaline burns. Trimebutine, an inhibitor of the high-mobility group box 1-receptor for advanced glycation end products, when topically applied to the burned corne…
  • Fentanyl Analogs Exert Antinociceptive Effects via Sodium Channel Blockade in Mice. [Journal Article]

  • The formalin test is one approach to studying acute pain in rodents. Similar to formalin, injection with glutamate and veratrine can also produce a nociceptive response. This study investigated whether opioid-related compounds could suppress glutamate- and veratrine-induced nociceptive responses in mice at the same dose. The administration of morphine (3 mg/kg), hydromorphone (0.4 mg/kg), or fent…
  • A Case of Idiopathic Peptic Ulcer Disease Treated Effectively with Trimebutine Maleat. [Case Reports]
    Acta Med Okayama. 2024 Feb; 78(1):85-88.Miyake K, Tanikawa T, … Kawamoto HAM
  • A 30-year-old man with idiopathic peptic ulcer disease (IPUD) experienced repeated recurrence of ulcerative bleeding despite treatment with lansoprazole and then vonoprazan. Further evaluation suggested that the cause of the ulcer was strong contractile movements of the antrum. This prompted the co-administration of trimebutine maleate (TM) and vonoprazan to relieve the stomach contractions. TM w…
