  • ICG-loaded gold nano-bipyramids with NIR activatable dual PTT-PDT therapeutic potential in melanoma cells. [Journal Article]
    Colloids Surf B Biointerfaces. 2020 Jun 26; 194:111213.Campu A, Focsan M, … Astilean S
  • A great amount of effort is directed towards the progress of cancer treatment approaches aspiring to develop non-invasive, targeted and highly efficient therapies. In this context, Photothermal (PTT) and Photodynamic (PDT) Therapies were proven as promising. This work aims to integrate the therapeutic activities of two near-infrared (NIR) photoactive biomaterials - gold nano-bipyramids (AuBPs) an…
  • Impact of extracellular folic acid levels on oviductal gene expression. [Journal Article]
Theriogenology. 2020 May 21; 154:161-170.García EV, Mansilla MJ, … Barrera AD
  • Folate plays a specific role as methyl donor for nucleotide synthesis and genomic methylation patterns, which in turn are important epigenetic determinants in gene expression. Previous studies have revealed the presence of folate in bovine oviductal fluid as well as the existence of a fine-tuned regulation of the gene expression of folate receptors and transporters in bovine oviduct epithelial ce…
  • Improving pre-pregnancy care for women with diabetes: a community-focused strategy. [Letter]
Diabet Med. 2020 Jul 02 [Online ahead of print]Song SH, McMurray C, … Stephenson J
  • Women with diabetes are at increased risk of adverse antenatal outcomes [1,2], and good pre-pregnancy care reduces this risk [3,4]. The National Pregnancy in Diabetes (NPID) 2018 audit showed pre-pregnancy care for women with diabetes remains sub-optimal [5]. In Sheffield, only 22-31% of women were prescribed high-dose folic acid 5 mg daily, and 5-10% were taking harmful medication (renin angiote…
  • Supramolecular magnetonanohybrids for multimodal targeted therapy of triple-negative breast cancer cells. [Journal Article]
J Mater Chem B. 2020 Jul 02 [Online ahead of print]Mansur AAP, Mansur HS, … Lobato ZIP
  • Despite the undeniable advances in recent decades, cancer remains one of the deadliest diseases of the current millennium, where the triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is very aggressive, extremely metastatic, and resistant to conventional chemotherapy. The nanotheranostic approach focusing on targeting membrane receptors often expressed at abnormal levels by cancer cells can be a strategic wea…
  • Functionalized layer-by-layer assembled film with directional 5-fluorouracil release to target colon cancer. [Journal Article]
Mater Sci Eng C Mater Biol Appl. 2020 Oct; 115:111118.Janardhanam LSL, Indukuri VV, … Venuganti VVK
  • The objective of this work was to prepare and characterize pH-sensitive capsule containing functionalized layer-by-layer (LbL) assembled polymeric film with directional drug release and evaluate its effectiveness against colon cancer. 5-Fluorouracil (5FU) loaded LbL film was prepared by sequential adsorption of chitosan and alginate polyelectrolytes. This LbL film was coated with polycaprolactone…
  • Serum Folate Levels and Lung Cancer Risk: A Meta- Epidemiological Study of Population-based Case-Control Studies. [Journal Article]
Asian Pac J Cancer Prev. 2020 Jun 01; 21(6):1829-1833.Bae JM
  • CONCLUSIONS: Higher foliate levels can decrease lung cancer risk in men and former smokers. Especially, the protective effect was highest in former smokers compared in non-smokers and current smokers. Based on these facts, folate fortification programs to reduce lung cancer risk would be focused on former smokers in men. And some epidemiological studies are needed to provide a hypothesis to explain the sex differences in the association between folate and lung cancer risk.
