Case Rep Gastrointest Med 2019; 2019:9605769Shah I, Vyas N, Kadkhodayan KS
  • Zollinger Ellison Syndrome (ZES) is characterized by a wide spectrum of conditions including severe gastroesophageal reflux disease, peptic ulcer disease, watery diarrhea, and weight loss. We present a case of a 60-year-old woman being evaluated for severe dyspepsia, vomiting, and chronic diarrhea, who was diagnosed to have ZES associated with a pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor, in the setting of …

  • Zollinger-Ellison syndrome (ZES) is a group of symptoms comprised of severe peptic ulcer disease, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and chronic diarrhea caused by a gastrin-secreting tumor of the duodenum or pancreas (gastrinoma triangle) that results in increased stimulation of acid-secreting cells of the stomach.[1][2] Gastrinoma is a functional neuroendocrine tumor that secretes gastric …
  • Gastrinoma of Cystic Duct: A Rare Association With Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Type 1. [Case Reports]
    J Clin Med Res 2018; 10(11):843-847Moraes AB, Treistman N, … Vieira Neto L
  • Neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) of cystic duct are extremely rare, accounting for less than 2% of NET cases. The association of biliary tree NET and multiple endocrine neoplasm type 1 (MEN1) are even more rare. In this report, we described a case of a 65-year-old woman who was referred to our neuroendocrine outpatient clinic to investigate MEN1 after an incidental diagnosis of gastrinoma. Her medica…

  • Results of Duodenopancreatic Reoperations in Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Type 1. [Journal Article]
    World J Surg 2019; 43(2):552-558Albers MB, Manoharan J, … Bartsch DK
  • CONCLUSIONS: Reoperations are frequently necessary for dpNEN in MEN1 patients, but are not associated with an increased perioperative morbidity in specialized centers. Organ-sparing resections should be preferred as initial duodenopancreatic procedures to maintain pancreatic function and avoid completion pancreatectomy.
  • Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Type 1: A Case Report With Review of Imaging Findings. [Case Reports]
Ochsner J 2018; 18(2):170-175Keller HR, Record JL, Lall NU
  • CONCLUSIONS: This case exhibits the classic history with corresponding imaging findings of MEN1 syndrome, including pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors, parathyroid adenoma, and adrenal adenomas. High clinical suspicion for MEN1 should lead to endocrinology evaluation with appropriate laboratory workup and targeted imaging evaluation of the typical endocrine organs as described for this patient.
