  • SGK1 activation exacerbates diet-induced obesity, metabolic syndrome and hypertension. [Journal Article]
    J Endocrinol 2019Sierra-Ramos C, Velázquez-García S, … Alvarez de la Rosa D
  • The serum- and glucocorticoid-induced kinase 1 (SGK1) is a transcriptional target of steroid hormones including glucocorticoids or aldosterone in addition to other stimuli such as glucose. SGK1 is activated via phosphoinositide 3-kinase, placing it downstream of insulin signaling. SGK1 participates in the up-regulation of kidney Na+ reabsorption by aldosterone and has been linked to obesity-relat…
  • Discomfort Intolerance in Relation to Asthma Outcomes. [Journal Article]
Cognit Ther Res 2019; 43(1):24-31McLeish AC, Kraemer KM, O'Bryan EM
  • Anxiety symptoms and disorders are common among those with asthma and contribute to poorer health outcomes. Building on work examining anxiety-related cognitive-affective risk factors in asthma, the current study sought to explore associations between discomfort intolerance (i.e., the inability to withstand or tolerate unpleasant bodily sensations) in relation to lung function, asthma control, an…
  • Altered response to risky decisions and reward in patients with obsessive–compulsive disorder [Journal Article]
    J Psychiatry Neurosci 2019; 44(6):180226Moreira PS, Macoveanu J, … Morgado P
  • CONCLUSIONS: Obsessive–compulsive disorder is associated with abnormal brain activity patterns during risky decision-making in a set of brain regions that have been consistently implicated in the processing of reward prediction errors. Alterations in affective “hot” processes implicated in decision-making may contribute to increased indecisiveness and intolerance to uncertainty in patients with OCD.
  • Profile of the nursing diagnoses in stable heart disease patients. [Journal Article]
Invest Educ Enferm 2019; 37(2)Cardoso PC, Gussatschenko Caballero L, … Rabelo da Silva ER
  • CONCLUSIONS: In this study, the nursing diagnoses validated for stable heart disease patients were linked to adherence to treatment and to the cardiovascular responses of the patients, reinforcing the importance of early intervention. These results allow the multidisciplinary team to individualize the goals and interventions proposed for ischemic heart disease patients.
  • β Cell dysfunction during progression of metabolic syndrome to type 2 diabetes. [Review]
J Clin Invest 2019; 129(10):4001-4008Hudish LI, Reusch JE, Sussel L
  • In a society where physical activity is limited and food supply is abundant, metabolic diseases are becoming a serious epidemic. Metabolic syndrome (MetS) represents a cluster of metabolically related symptoms such as obesity, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and carbohydrate intolerance, and significantly increases type 2 diabetes mellitus risk. Insulin resistance and hyperinsulinemia are consistent …
