  • High-Throughput Sequencing Analysis of Microbial Profiles in the Dry Socket. [Journal Article]
  • JOJ Oral Maxillofac Surg 2019 Mar 09
  • Shen LH, Xiao E, … Zhang Y
  • CONCLUSIONS: These results suggest differences in the microbial community composition among DSs, normal-healing sockets, and post-treated sockets. These results provide better insight into the development of DS and enhance the understanding of DS. Nonetheless, further studies are necessary to investigate and confirm how these differential bacteria contribute to the development of the disease.
  • A metagenomic study of patients with alveolar osteitis after tooth extraction. A preliminary case-control study. [Journal Article]
  • COClin Oral Investig 2019 Apr 01
  • Aguilar-Durán L, Figueiredo R, … Valmaseda-Castellón E
  • CONCLUSIONS: Patients who develop alveolar osteitis after dental extractions might have a different microbiota from that of patients without postoperative complications. Since this is a preliminary report, further research is needed to assess whether bacteria play an important role in the etiology of dry socket. This study seems to indicate that bacteria may play an important role in the alveolar osteitis etiology. Thus, new prevention and treatment strategies should be considered.
  • Completeness of Electronic Dental Records in a Student Clinic: Retrospective Analysis. [Journal Article]
  • JMJMIR Med Inform 2019 Mar 21; 7(1):e13008
  • Levitin SA, Grbic JT, Finkelstein J
  • CONCLUSIONS: There was a significant discrepancy between the index category frequency in alveolar osteitis cases documented by dental students and in the population (reported in peer-reviewed literature). More attention to clinical documentation skills is warranted in dental student training.
