    Stud Health Technol Inform. 2020 Jun 16; 270:517-521.Torres J, Artola G, Muro N
  • Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs) are promoted as a powerful tool for standardization of the medical care quality and improvement of patients' outcomes. However, CPGs need to be formalized in a computer interpretable format (i.e. as Computer Interpretable Guidelines or CIGs) for their implementation within Clinical Decision Support Systems (CDSS). But, maintaining the reliability of these guide…

  • Expressive Authoring of Node-Link Diagrams with Graphies. [Journal Article]
IEEE Trans Vis Comput Graph. 2019 Nov 01 [Online ahead of print]Romat H, Appert C, Pietriga E
  • Expressive design environments enable visualization designers not only to specify chart types and visual mappings, but also to customize individual graphical marks, as they would in a vector graphics drawing tool. Prior work has mainly investigated how to support the expressive design of a wide range of charts generated from tabular data: bar charts, scatterplots, maps, etc. We focus here on an e…

  • This team has had prior successful production efforts in the use of Second Life to implement a virtual reality world into both nursing education and practice. Our current efforts center around a virtual reality application that provides learners with the opportunity to master competencies in the use of ultrasound technologies, which have surfaced in many nurse practitioner certifications as a nec…
  • Psychotherapy research: an interplay between inner and outer and a succession of meanings. [Case Reports]
    J Anal Psychol. 2019 Sep; 64(4):512-529.Gudaitė G
  • Psychotherapy research is a rapidly developing area of study that aims to explore the integration of inner and outer conditions of an individual's experience, the interplay between subjective and objective, as well as between individual and collective. Questions regarding a more integrative view and qualitative research in psychotherapy are discussed in the paper. The author introduces some ideas…
  • Using metro lines for integration of nucleotide metabolic pathways. [Journal Article]
Biochem Mol Biol Educ. 2019 09; 47(5):532-537.Lee RKY, Ng BYN, Chen DMH
  • Students always encounter difficulties in studying biochemical pathways. They are especially weak in understanding the relationships between metabolic pathways and their integration because these pathways are always taught one-by-one in class. In the past, various online resources have been developed to facilitate students' understanding toward energy metabolism. Although these learning materials…
  • The technique of story-telling in thyroid diseases including surgery; useful or not. [Journal Article]
    Ann Med Surg (Lond). 2019 May; 41:43-46.Sabaretnam M, Bothra S, Warsi D
  • CONCLUSIONS: Story telling is a useful tool in health communication. • Developing a Physical Activity Ontology to Support the Interoperability of Physical Activity Data. [Journal Article]
    J Med Internet Res. 2019 04 23; 21(4):e12776.Kim H, Mentzer J, Taira R
  • CONCLUSIONS: As a first step toward standardizing and structuring heterogeneous descriptions of physical activities for integrative data analyses, PACO was constructed based on the concepts collected from physical activity questionnaires and assessment scales. PACO was evaluated to be structurally consistent and compliant to ontology authoring principles. PACO was also demonstrated to be potentially useful in standardizing heterogeneous physical activity descriptions and classifying them into clinically meaningful categories that reflect adequacy of exercise.

  • Validation of the three web quality dimensions of a minimally invasive surgery e-learning platform. [Journal Article]
    Int J Med Inform. 2017 11; 107:1-10.Ortega-Morán JF, Pagador JB, … Sánchez-Margallo FM
  • CONCLUSIONS: According to the study, it seems that TELMA had an attractive design, innovative content and interactive navigation, which are three key features of an e-learning platform. TELMA successfully met the three criteria necessary for consideration as a website of quality by achieving more than 70% of agreements regarding all usability, content and functionality items validated; this constitutes a preliminary requirement for an effective e-learning platform. However, the content completeness, authoring tool and registration process required improvement. Finally, the e-MIS validity methodology used to measure the three dimensions of web quality in this work can be applied to other clinical areas or training fields.
