  • CONCLUSIONS: Touch was a powerful form of nonverbal communication which established human connection. Phenomenological accounts of empathy, which emphasize its embodied intersubjective nature, could be used to theoretically enrich pedagogical approaches to touch in medical education and deepen our understanding of empathy.
