  • Effects of Cardiovascular Risk Factor Variability on Health Outcomes. [Journal Article]
Endocrinol Metab (Seoul). 2020 Jun; 35(2):217-226.Lee SH, Kim MK, Rhee EJ
  • Innumerable studies have suggested "the lower, the better" for cardiovascular risk factors, such as body weight, lipid profile, blood pressure, and blood glucose, in terms of health outcomes. However, excessively low levels of these parameters cause health problems, as seen in cachexia, hypoglycemia, and hypotension. Body weight fluctuation is related to mortality, diabetes, obesity, cardiovascul…
  • [Roles of p38 MAPK signaling in the skeletal muscle formation, regeneration, and pathology]. [Journal Article]
    Nihon Yakurigaku Zasshi. 2020; 155(4):241-247.Tomida T, Adachi-Akahane S
  • Sarcopenia and frailty in aging, or cancer cachexia shows an abnormal decrease in skeletal muscle mass and muscle strength. However, the underlying mechanisms are not clear, and the promising drug seeds have not been discovered. The formation of skeletal muscle occurs not only during embryonic development but also in adulthood, and the muscle can be regenerated even if it is damaged by exercise o…
  • White adipose tissue browning in critical illness: A review of the evidence, mechanisms and future perspectives. [Review]
    Obes Rev. 2020 Jul 01 [Online ahead of print]Alipoor E, Hosseinzadeh-Attar MJ, … Chapman M
  • Observational studies suggest better clinical outcomes following critical illness in patients with overweight and obesity (obesity paradox). An understanding of the morphologic, physiologic and metabolic changes in adipose tissue in critical illness may provide an explanation. Recent studies have demonstrated the transformation of white to brown-like adipocytes due to the "browning process," whic…
  • Food Pyramid for Subjects with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Diseases. [Review]
Int J Chron Obstruct Pulmon Dis. 2020; 15:1435-1448.Rondanelli M, Faliva MA, … Corsico AG
  • Nutritional problems are an important part of rehabilitation for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients. COPD patients often present with malnutrition, sarcopenia, and osteoporosis with possible onset of cachexia, with an inadequate dietary intake and a poor quality of life. Moreover, diet plays a pivotal role in patients with COPD through three mechanisms: regulation of carbon dio…
  • Mathematical Model of Muscle Wasting in Cancer Cachexia. [Journal Article]
    J Clin Med. 2020 Jun 28; 9(7)Farhang-Sardroodi S, Wilkie KP
  • Cancer cachexia is a debilitating condition characterized by an extreme loss of skeletal muscle mass, which negatively impacts patients' quality of life, reduces their ability to sustain anti-cancer therapies, and increases the risk of mortality. Recent discoveries have identified the myostatin/activin A/ActRIIB pathway as critical to muscle wasting by inducing satellite cell quiescence and incre…
  • NeuroHeal Reduces Muscle Atrophy and Modulates Associated Autophagy. [Journal Article]
    Cells. 2020 Jun 28; 9(7)Marmolejo-Martínez-Artesero S, Romeo-Guitart D, … Casas C
  • Muscle wasting is an unmet medical need which leads to a reduction of myofiber diameter and a negative impact on the functional performance of daily activities. We previously found that a new neuroprotective drug called NeuroHeal reduced muscle atrophy produced by transient denervation. Aiming to decipher whether NeuroHeal has a direct role in muscle biology, we used herein different models of mu…
  • Muscle NAD+ depletion and Serpina3n as molecular determinants of murine cancer cachexia - the effects of blocking myostatin and activins. [Journal Article]
Mol Metab. 2020 Jun 26 [Online ahead of print]Hulmi JJ, Penna F, … Lalowski M
  • CONCLUSIONS: We present here an evidence implicating disturbed muscle mitochondrial OXPHOS proteome and NAD+ homeostasis in experimental cancer cachexia. Treatment of tumour-bearing mice with a blocker of activin receptor ligands restores depleted muscle NAD+ and Nrk2 as well as decreased muscle protein synthesis. These results point out putative new treatment therapies for cachexia. Our results also reveal that although acute phase protein Serpina3n may serve as a predictor of cachexia, it more likely reflects a condition of elevated inflammation.
  • Spontaneous direct inguinal hernia rupture and intestinal mesenteric separation: A case report. [Case Reports]
Ulus Travma Acil Cerrahi Derg. 2020 Jun; 26(4):647-649.Görgülü Ö, Koşar MN
  • Spontaneous evisceration is a rare complication that becomes life-threatening in direct inguinal hernia. A female at the age of 44, weighing 50 kg looked cachectic and was suffering from swelling on the left groin for the last several years. The evisceration of the small intestine as separated from the mesenterium transpired in the subsequent stage of a spontaneous rupture in the left inguinal re…
  • [Assessment and nutritional treatment in the oncogeriatric patient. Differential aspects]. [Journal Article]
    Nutr Hosp. 2020 Jul 01; 34(Spec No1):1-21.Matía Martín MP, Hernández-Núñez MG, … Cuesta Triana F
  • The incidence of cancer increases as age progresses. With aging, and with a chronic disease such as cancer, the prevalence of disease-related malnutrition (DRE), sarcopenia, cachexia and frailty increases. These are associated with mortality, toxicity due to antineoplastic treatment and post-surgical complications. In this article, the prevalence of DRE, sarcopenia and cachexia, the way to diagno…
  • A Case of Cachexia Secondary to Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. [Case Reports]
Case Rep Psychiatry. 2020; 2020:5783191.Gosnell HL, Kablinger AS
  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), a relatively common psychiatric illness, is diagnosed using DSM-V criteria. Its severity is assessed using the Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale (Y-BOCS). Symptoms are broken down into five categories of obsessive-compulsive (O-C) manifestations: contamination/cleaning, symmetry/ordering, taboo thoughts, doubt about harm/checking, and worry about throwing …
