  • Design and testing of microbubble-based MRI contrast agents for gastric pressure measurement. [Journal Article]
    Magn Reson Med 2020; 83(3):1096-1108Abdurakman E, Bencsik M, … Bowtell R
  • CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrates that alginate spheres with microbubbles can be used as an MRI contrast agent to measure pressure changes. The peristaltic movement within the stomach is seen to substantially alter the overall signal intensity of the contrast agent meal. Future work must focus on improving the contrast agent's sensitivity to pressure changes.
  • Can Creatine Combat the Mental Fatigue-associated Decrease in Visuomotor Skills? [Journal Article]
    Med Sci Sports Exerc 2019Van Cutsem J, Roelands B, … Meeusen R
  • CONCLUSIONS: Creatine supplementation improved physical (strength endurance) and prolonged cognitive (Stroop accuracy) performance, yet it did not combat mental fatigue-induced impairments in short sport-specific psychomotor or cognitive (Flanker) performance. These results warrant further investigation in the potential role of creatine in combatting the MF-associated decrements in prolonged (e.g. 90-min soccer game) sport performance, and suggest a role of brain-phosphocreatine in MF.
