- Predicting oral cephalosporin susceptibility in Escherichia coli blood isolates using parenteral cephalosporin susceptibility testing. [Journal Article]J Antimicrob Chemother. 2026 Mar 04; 81(4).JA
- CONCLUSIONS: Prediction of oral second-generation cephalosporins may warrant cefazolin MIC ≤2 mg/L, despite limitations regarding false resistance and susceptibility discordant. Ceftriaxone/cefotaxime demonstrates a more reliable surrogate for predicting oral third-generation cephalosporins susceptibility. Future investigations are necessary to clinically corroborate these findings.

- [Characteristics of the group A streptococcal (GAS) epidemic in the pediatric primary care in Hungary in 2023]. [Journal Article]Orv Hetil. 2025 May 11; 166(19):719-727.OH
- Introduction and objective: A rising number of group A streptococcal infections has been observed all over Europe since 2022. In addition to the high number of patients, the increase in the proportion of progressive, severe, invasive cases has been noticed as an alarming problem. The aim of our study was to describe the characteristics of the Hungarian Streptococcus pyogenes epidemic in the paedi…

- Urticaria-Like Hypersensitivity Reaction Following Botulinum Toxin Injection: A Case Report of Possible Interaction with β-Lactam Antibiotics. [Case Reports]
- Botulinum toxin serotype A (BTX-A) is commonly used for treating facial dynamic wrinkles. The clinical safety of BTX-A has been proven, and it has few side effects; despite this, BTX-A has the potential to cause an allergic reaction. This case raises concerns about a possible interaction between botulinum toxin serotype A (CBTX-A) and β-lactam antibiotics, contributing to the limited literature o…

- Drugs and Lactation Database (LactMed): Cefprozil [BOOK]Drugs and Lactation Database (LactMed). National Library of Medicine (US): Bethesda (MD).BOOK
- Limited information indicates that cefprozil produces low levels in milk that are not expected to cause adverse effects in breastfed infants. Occasionally disruption of the infant's gastrointestinal flora, resulting in diarrhea or thrush have been reported with cephalosporins, but these effects have not been adequately evaluated. Cefprozil is acceptable in nursing mothers.
- Microwave Synthesis of Fluorescent Carbon Quantum dots from Araucaria Heterophylla Gum: Application in Drug Detection. [Journal Article]
- This study employed a green microwave synthesis technique to produce carbon quantum dots (CQDs) from araucaria heterophylla gum extract. The produced CQDs emit a distinct blue fluorescent light, contributing a remarkable quantum yield of 14.69%. Their average particle size measures at 1.62 ± 0.39 nm. Furthermore, these CQDs demonstrate excellent water solubility and maintain high fluorescence sta…

- Cotton Ball Aspiration Leading to Pulmonary Complications in a Child. [Case Reports]
- BACKGROUND Foreign body aspiration (FBA) is a common and serious problem in childhood that requires early recognition and treatment. Common complications include asphyxia, hemorrhage, infection, and pneumothorax. In severe cases of foreign body obstruction, death can result from asphyxia. We report an interesting case in which a forgotten cotton ball was inhaled into the lungs. CASE REPORT A 5-ye…

- Evaluation of Cross-Reactivity Between Penicillins and Cephalosporins in Children with a History of Cephalosporin Allergy. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: There seems to be a high risk of adverse reactions to penicillins and other cephalosporins in children with a history of type I hypersensitivity reaction to cephalosporins. Therefore, skin testing with both cephalosporins and penicillins should be performed in patients with a history of cephalosporin allergy.

- A Case Report of Salmonella enterica Meningitis in an Infant: A Rare Entity not to Forget. [Case Reports]
- CONCLUSIONS: Invasive Salmonella diseases, such as meningitis, are very uncommon in industrial countries nowadays, and the optimal management is yet not well established. Late onset of complications from Salmonella meningitis warrants more thorough neurodevelopmental follow-ups.

- Identification and characterization of domain-specific inhibitors of DENV NS3 and NS5 proteins by in silico screening methods. [Journal Article]J Biomol Struct Dyn. 2025 Aug; 43(12):5819-5833.JB
- The dengue virus (DENV) infects approximately 400 million people annually worldwide causing significant morbidity and mortality. Despite advances in understanding the virus life cycle and infectivity, no specific treatment for this disease exists due to the lack of therapeutic drugs. In addition, vaccines available currently are ineffective with severe side effects. Therefore, there is an urgent …

- Aquasomes nanoformulation for controlled release of drug and improved effectiveness against bacterial infections. [Journal Article]
- Aim: The study aimed to develop and evaluate an aquasome drug-delivery system for controlled drug delivery of cefprozil monohydrate. Materials & methods: Aquasomes were prepared by the spinal method with a calcium phosphate core, sugar-coated using cellobiose and drug-loaded by adsorption. The formulations were characterized for size, morphology and drug release. An antibacterial study was conduc…

- Pharmacokinetic and Bioequivalence Evaluation of Two Cefprozil Dispersible Tablets in Healthy Chinese Volunteers. [Randomized Controlled Trial]Clin Pharmacol Drug Dev. 2023 Dec; 12(12):1229-1233.CP
- This study aimed to assess the bioequivalence of 2 cefprozil dispersible tablet formulations (250 mg) in healthy Chinese volunteers under fasting and fed conditions and to determine the pharmacokinetics of cefprozil. A randomized, single-dose, open-label, 2-formulation, 2-period study was conducted. The elimination period for this study was 7 days. Forty-eight healthy volunteers received 250-mg c…

- Heterologous expression, purification, and characterization of thermo- and alkali-tolerant laccase-like multicopper oxidase from Bacillus mojavensis TH309 and determination of its antibiotic removal potential. [Journal Article]
- Laccases or laccase-like multicopper oxidases have great potential in bioremediation to oxidase phenolic or non-phenolic substrates. However, their inability to maintain stability in harsh environmental conditions and against non-substrate compounds is one of the main reasons for their limited use. The gene (mco) encoding multicopper oxidase from Bacillus mojavensis TH309 were cloned into pET14b(…

- Characterization of vancomycin-resistance vanD gene clusters in the human intestinal microbiota by metagenomics and culture-enriched metagenomics. [Journal Article]
- CONCLUSIONS: This study showed that culture-enriched metagenomics allowed detection of vanD genes not detected by direct metagenomics and revealed collateral enrichment of bacteria containing vancomycin-resistance vanD genes following exposure to β-lactams, with a higher prevalence of the most likely gut commensal anaerobes carrying vanD. These commensal anaerobes could be the reservoir of vanD genes carried by enterococci.
