  • Bacteria Producing Extended Spectrum β-lactamases (ESBLs) in Hospitalized Patients: Prevalence, Antimicrobial Resistance Pattern and its Main Determinants. [Journal Article]
    Iran J Pathol 2019; 14(1):61-67Yousefipour M, Rasoulinejad M, … Khorsand A
  • CONCLUSIONS: We have shown that our community faces a high prevalence of bacteria producing ESBLs, mostly sourced from the catheterization of hospitalized patients. The highest bacterial sensitivity was observed with Imipenem, nitrofu- rantoin, and amikacin, while the highest resistance was found with ceftriaxone and cotrimoxazole, suggesting the inef- fectiveness of using the two latter antibiotics for eradicating these bacterial infections. On the other hand, a history of urinary catheterization and previous hospitalization were two main determinants of their presence, a finding which em- phasizes the importance of avoiding catheterization and hospitalization of patients with UTIs without proper indications.
  • A 14-year girl with abdominal pain: case report of splenic cyst. [Case Reports]
Gastroenterol Hepatol Bed Bench 2019; 12(3):260-262Tajik P, Goudarzian AH, Pourzahabi Z
  • The spleen cyst is a rare and often incidental finding that can be primary or secondary, parasitic or non-parasitic. Based on the size of the cyst, the patient may experience symptoms and plan of treatment based on size and symptoms will be done. Our patient was a 14 years old girl who had two years of vague abdominal pain and was referred to our hospital with severe abdominal pain. In the CT sca…
  • Asymptomatic ceftriaxone-associated pseudolithiasis. [Case Reports]
    J Gen Fam Med 2019; 20(5):209-212Sasaki O, Sugimura K, … Shinkai M
  • An 88-year-old woman with a history of meningioma and dementia was admitted with high fever, loss of appetite, and nausea in July. Urinary tract infection was suspected. Computed tomography (CT) showed no significant findings. Urinary findings improved with administration of ceftriaxone. However, high fever appeared on hospital day 28, and CT identified a gallbladder stone without any abdominal s…
  • Antimicrobial susceptibility pattern of oral isolates of Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans. [Journal Article]
    J Oral Maxillofac Pathol 2019 May-Aug; 23(2):231-235Bhat KG, Khot P, … Majukar S
  • CONCLUSIONS: The isolates of A. actinomycetemcomitans displayed a high level of resistance to azithromycin and clindamycin. Development of resistance against tetracycline also appears to be significant. Variable resistance among the different members of the cephalosporin group is a factor to be investigated further since susceptibility profile against these antibiotics and interpretative criteria for oral bacteria are not available.
