  • Epicatechin influences primary hemostasis, coagulation and fibrinolysis. [Journal Article]
    Food Funct 2019Sinegre T, Teissandier D, … Lebreton A
  • The different stages of hemostasis (i.e., primary hemostasis, coagulation and fibrinolysis) are involved in the early atherothrombosis steps. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of epicatechin, a major flavonoid compound, on the hemostasis phenotype using clinically relevant in vitro global assays that mimic the complexity of the in vivo hemostasis systems. Plasma samples from 10 …
  • Clot Structure and Implications for Bleeding and Thrombosis. [Journal Article]
Semin Thromb Hemost 2019Mihalko E, Brown AC
  • The formation of a fibrin clot matrix plays a critical role in promoting hemostasis and wound healing. Fibrin dynamics can become disadvantageous in the formation of aberrant thrombus development. Structural characteristics of clots, such as fiber diameter, clot density, stiffness, or permeability, can determine overall clot integrity and functional characteristics that have implications on coagu…
  • Thrombin generation and fibrin clot structure after vitamin D supplementation. [Journal Article]
    Endocr Connect 2019Blondon M, Biver E, … Casini A
  • CONCLUSIONS: In severe vitamin D deficiency, a high-dose cholecalciferol supplementation was associated with a reduction in thrombin generation and an average decreased number of fibrin protofibrils per fibers and fibrin fiber size measured by turbidimetry. This suggests that severe vitamin D deficiency may be associated with a potentially reversible prothrombotic profile.
  • Cardiac and Skeletal Muscle Myosin Exert Procoagulant Effects. [Journal Article]
    Shock 2019; 52(5):554-555Coleman JR, Moore EE, … Deguchi H
  • CONCLUSIONS: Cardiac and skeletal muscle myosins exhibit procoagulant effects in TEG assays. These whole blood TEG results support the hypothesis that cardiac and skeletal muscle myosins may be either pro-hemostatic or prothrombotic depending on context.
  • Fibrinogen levels are associated with bleeding in patients with primary immune thrombocytopenia. [Journal Article]
    Platelets 2019; :1-8Xu M, Luo L, … Mei H
  • Bleeding is the most common clinical symptom and the leading cause of death in patients with primary immune thrombocytopenia (ITP). Our research intends to verify the role of fibrinogen levels as independent determinants of bleeding. We retrospectively analyzed the relationship between fibrinogen levels and bleeding events in 463 patients. Additionally, we confirmed the impact of fibrinogen level…
