  • [A probable fatal argon gas embolism during resection of a cutaneous biliary fistula - a case report]. [Case Reports]
Rev Bras Anestesiol. 2020 May 29 [Online ahead of print]Powell K
  • CONCLUSIONS: Although argon embolisms have been described more commonly during laparoscopies, this patient most likely experienced an argon gas embolism during an open resection of a cutaneous biliary fistula via the biliary tract or vein with possible transpulmonary passage of the embolism. Consequently, a high degree of suspicion should be maintained for an argon gas embolism during ABC use in laparoscopic, open, and cutaneous surgeries.
  • Introduction of HPV testing for cervical cancer screening in Central America: The Scale-Up project. [Journal Article]
    Prev Med. 2020 Jun; 135:106076.Holme F, Jeronimo J, … Scale-Up project team
  • The Scale-Up project introduced vaginal self-sampling and low-cost human papillomavirus (HPV) testing as the primary approach for cervical cancer screening in selected public health centers in Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. We evaluate the country-specific accomplishments in screening: target-coverage, triage, and treatment. Between 2015 and 2018, cervical cancer screening was offered to wom…
  • Skin ligation and argon beam coagulation for giant pachydermatocele resection. [Case Reports]
    J Surg Case Rep. 2019 Sep; 2019(9):rjz264.Morita D, Nemoto H, … Ito Y
  • Resection of giant neurofibroma in neurofibromatosis type 1 has a high risk of perioperative bleeding because the tumors are enriched in blood vessels, which are weakened due to the loss and thinning of vascular smooth muscle. Therefore, we combined skin ligation around the tumor and use of an argon beam coagulator (ABC) for hemostasis during resecting the giant neurofibroma. The ABC is a non-con…
  • Assessment of Plasma Coagulation on Liver Tissue in a Large Animal Model In Vivo. [Journal Article]
    J Vis Exp. 2018 08 04Glowka TR, Paschenda P, … Tolba RH
  • Plasma coagulation as a form of electrocautery is used in liver surgery for decades to seal the large liver cut surface after major hepatectomy to prevent hemorrhages at a later stage. The exact effects of plasma coagulation on liver tissue are only poorly examined. In our porcine model, the coagulation effects can be examined close to the clinical application. A combined laser Doppler flowmeter …
  • [Bipolar electroexcision and endoscopic laser photocoagulation colon polyps]. [Journal Article]
Wiad Lek. 2018; 71(2 pt 1):277-280.Filip SS, Bratasyuk AM, Slivka RM
  • CONCLUSIONS: Conclusion: Polypectomy with fibrocolonoscopy is an effective method of diagnosis and treatment of benign tumors of the large intestine in ambulatory conditions. When removing polyps on a broad basis, the advantage should be given to the method of laser coagulation because healing of the wound occurs faster compared with the method of bipolar electroexcision.
  • Arthroscopy of the First Metatarsophalangeal Joint. [Journal Article]
    J Foot Ankle Surg. 2018 Mar - Apr; 57(2):357-363.Nakajima K
  • Arthroscopic treatments for the first metatarsophalangeal joint have not spread fully owing to a number of factors. First, in the common arthroscopic view, the joint is observed from above, which makes the structures difficult to grasp and the dorsal aspect of the joint difficult to visualize and treat. Second, techniques for widening the view have not yet been reported. Third, the portals necess…
