  • Post-fatigue fracture resistance of premolar teeth restored with endocrowns: An in vitro investigation. [Journal Article]
    J Dent. 2020 Jul 03 [Online ahead of print]Hassouneh L, Jum'ah AA, … Wood DJ
  • CONCLUSIONS: Single piece, CAD/CAM composite resin endocrowns can present a reliable option for restoring endodontically treated premolar teeth.Endocrowns can be as effective as post-crowns provided appropriate preparation; material selection; and bonding protocols are utilized. Clinicians need to be cautious when prescribing zirconia endocrowns to restore premolar teeth owing to the low fracture resistance and high risk of catastrophic failures.
  • Effect of surface treatment on the retention of zirconia crowns to tooth structure after aging. [Journal Article]
J Esthet Restor Dent. 2020 Jul 06 [Online ahead of print]Monteiro RV, Dos Santos DM, … De Souza GM
  • CONCLUSIONS: The chemical interaction between the universal bonding system and zirconia's surface was not sufficient to withstand artificial aging. Tribochemical silica coating did not promote additional retention in comparison to alumina blasting. The long-term retention of translucent zirconia crowns to tooth structure using phosphate-based materials is improved by means of mechanical surface treatments such as alumina blasting and tribochemical silica coating.
  • Management of Atlantoaxial Instability Due to a Pathological Fracture of the Axis. [Case Reports]
    Cureus. 2020 Jul 01; 12(7):e8951.Thirunavu V, Dahdaleh NS
  • Metastases to the upper cervical spine are uncommon, and subsequent instability is rare. We report the details of a patient with metastatic breast cancer to the axis manifesting as a pathologic fracture and C1/C2 instability. This was treated by preoperative reduction to appropriate alignment with use of crown halo traction, followed by posterior occipitocervical fusion and postoperative radiatio…
  • Immune checkpoint inhibitors: Key trials and an emerging role in breast cancer. [Review]
Semin Cancer Biol. 2020 Jul 02 [Online ahead of print]Gaynor N, Crown J, Collins DM
  • This review focuses on immune checkpoint inhibitors - immunomodulatory agents that aim to relieve tumour-mediated immune-cell suppression. Immune checkpoint proteins can be expressed on the tumour-cell or immune-cell populations. Immune checkpoint proteins dampen the immune response by inactivating immune cells capable of tumour destruction. Blockade of immune checkpoints has shown impressive res…
  • Maternal respiratory infections in early pregnancy increases the risk of type 1 diabetes. [Journal Article]
    Pediatr Diabetes. 2020 Jul 04 [Online ahead of print]Bélteky M, Wahlberg J, Ludvigsson J
  • CONCLUSIONS: In the general population there seems to be an association between seasonal maternal respiratory tract infection in the first trimester of pregnancy and later risk of T1D in the offspring. HLA may play a role for the effect of exposure to infections and antibiotics. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.
  • CryoEM structure of the tegumented capsid of Epstein-Barr virus. [Journal Article]
    Cell Res. 2020 Jul 03 [Online ahead of print]Li Z, Zhang X, … Yu X
  • Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is the primary cause of infectious mononucleosis and has been shown to be closely associated with various malignancies. Here, we present a complete atomic model of EBV, including the icosahedral capsid, the dodecameric portal and the capsid-associated tegument complex (CATC). Our in situ portal from the tegumented capsid adopts a closed conformation with its channel valve…
  • Aesthetic correction of double tooth: simplified technique. [Journal Article]
    J Biol Regul Homeost Agents. 2020 May-Jun; 34(3 Suppl. 1):55-61.DENTAL SUPPLEMENT, Campanella V, … Gargari M
  • The aim of this study is to report aesthetic conservative treatment of double tooth anomaly. Case report: A 7.5-year-old patient presents an anomaly of the maxillary right upper central incisor with a bifid crown and an increased mesio-distal width and a central incisal notch, probably amenable to a gemination. Single tooth anesthesia and conservative enameloplasty procedure was performed, with u…
  • Human Oral Motion-Powered Smart Dental Implant (SDI) for In Situ Ambulatory Photo-biomodulation Therapy. [Journal Article]
    Adv Healthc Mater. 2020 Jul 01 [Online ahead of print]Park M, Islam S, … Kim A
  • Peri-implant disease is an inflammatory condition affecting the soft and hard tissues surrounding a dental implant. However, current preventative methods are insufficient due to the limited bioactivity on the dental implant and poor patient compliance. Recently, photo-biomodulation (PBM) therapy that can recover and regenerate peri-implant soft tissue has attracted considerable attention in denti…
  • Total body irradiation in Australia and New Zealand: results of a practice survey. [Journal Article]
Phys Eng Sci Med. 2020 Jul 01 [Online ahead of print]Fog LS, Wirth A, … Kron T
  • Total body irradiation (TBI) is an important treatment modality for the preparation of patients for bone marrow transplants. It is technically challenging and the actual delivery may vary from clinic to clinic. Knowledge of the pattern of practice may be helpful for clinics to determine future practice. We carried out an email survey from April to September 2019 sending 48 TBI related questions t…
  • [Acute respiratory distress in a frail older patient: spontaneous tooth aspiration]. [Case Reports]
Ned Tijdschr Tandheelkd. 2020 May; 127(5):282-285.Jansen J, van der Maarel-Wierink CD, Dubois L
  • A 68-year-old man presented at the emergency room with acute difficulty breathing. On account of recent subarachnoidal haemorrhage the patient was a resident of a care facility, and was also being treated for acute bronchitis there. Radiographic imaging of the lungs revealed a tooth with crown and pontic to have been inhaled. The tooth was surgically removed. After 3 weeks in the intensive care u…
