  • Laparoscopic Variants of Temporary Uterine Artery Ligation. [Journal Article]
    J Minim Invasive Gynecol 2019Carranco RC, Vigeras A, … Kondo W
  • CONCLUSIONS: Laparoscopic uterine artery ligation may be performed during laparoscopic myomectomy to reduce intraoperative blood loss. According to the position of the myomas within the uterus as well as the uterine volume, the surgeon may choose among 1 of the above-mentioned techniques to perform. This technique could also be applied to other types of invasive uterine procedures to reduce blood loss. Standardization of these techniques could help to reduce the laparoscopic learning curve.
  • Comparison of Laparoscopic Hysterectomy in Patients with Endometriosis with and without an Obliterated Cul-de-sac. [Journal Article]
J Minim Invasive Gynecol 2019Melnyk A, Rindos NB, … Lee TTM
  • CONCLUSIONS: Patients with stage IV endometriosis and an obliterated cul-de-sac required laparoscopic modified radical hysterectomy and various other intraoperative procedures more than patients with stage IV endometriosis without obliteration and stages I through III. Patients with obliterated cul-de-sacs who are identified intraoperatively should be referred to minimally invasive gynecologic specialists because of the difficult nature of these procedures and extra training required to perform them safely with limited morbidity.
  • The Role of Diagnostic Hysteroscopy in the Evaluation of Fallopian Tube Patency: a Short Review. [Journal Article]
    Geburtshilfe Frauenheilkd 2019; 79(5):483-486Hager M, Simek IM, … Ott J
  • The relevance of diagnostic hysteroscopy, especially when performed in an outpatient "office" setting, in the evaluation process of infertility has increased within the last few years. Notably, several articles on a possible role for diagnostic hysteroscopy in the assessment of Fallopian tube patency have been published recently. Three relevant articles were identified. Visualizing a "flow effect…
  • New Litter Trap Devices Outperform Pitfall Traps for Studying Arthropod Activity. [Journal Article]
    Insects 2019; 10(5)Ruiz-Lupión D, Pascual J, … Moya-Laraño J
  • Soil fauna play a key role in nutrient cycling and decomposition, and in recent years, researchers have become more and more interested in this compartment of terrestrial ecosystems. In addition, soil fauna can act as ecosystem engineers by creating, modifying, and maintaining the habitat for other organisms. Ecologists usually utilize live catches in pitfalls traps as a standard method to study …
  • Descent and hypermobility of the rectum in women with obstructed defecation symptoms. [Journal Article]
    Int Urogynecol J 2019Rostaminia G, Abramowitch S, … Goldberg RP
  • CONCLUSIONS: Female ODS are associated with distinct alterations in rectal mobility and support that can be clearly observed on dynamic ultrasound. The defects in rectal support were quantifiable using a compression ratio metric, and these defects strongly predicted the likelihood of symptoms; interestingly, the presence or degree of rectocele defects played no role. These findings may provide new insight into the anatomic factors underlying female ODS.
  • Strategies for Improving Ocular Drug Bioavailability and Corneal Wound Healing with Chitosan-Based Delivery Systems. [Review]
    Polymers (Basel) 2018; 10(11)Irimia T, Ghica MV, … Dinu-Pîrvu CE
  • The main inconvenience of conventional eye drops is the rapid washout of the drugs due to nasolacrimal drainage or ophthalmic barriers. The ocular drug bioavailability can be improved by either prolonging retention time in the cul-de-sac or by increasing the ocular permeability. The focus of this review is to highlight some chitosan-based drug delivery approaches that proved to have good clinical…
