  • Natural History of Cardiomyopathy in Adult Dogs With Golden Retriever Muscular Dystrophy. [Journal Article]
J Am Heart Assoc 2019; 8(16):e012443Guo LJ, Soslow JH, … Spurney CF
  • Background Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is an X-linked disease that causes progressive muscle weakness. Affected boys typically die from respiratory or cardiac failure. Golden retriever muscular dystrophy (GRMD) is genetically homologous with DMD and causes analogous skeletal and cardiac muscle disease. Previous studies have detailed features of GRMD cardiomyopathy in mostly young dogs. Card…
  • Outcomes associated with unplanned interstage cardiac interventions following Norwood palliation. [Journal Article]
Ann Thorac Surg 2019Castellanos DA, Ocampo EC, … Ghanayem NS
  • CONCLUSIONS: Unplanned interstage interventions after S1P does not increase interstage mortality but participants with an unplanned intervention were less likely to progress to S2P. Residual anatomic lesions are risk factors for unplanned interstage interventions. For those with progressive ventricular dysfunction in the presence of arch obstruction by echocardiogram, aortic arch reintervention is warranted.
  • Detrimental Effects of Chemotherapy on Human Coronary Microvascular Function. [Journal Article]
Am J Physiol Heart Circ Physiol 2019Hader SN, Zinkevich NS, … Beyer AM
  • CONCLUSIONS: In vessels from adult subjects, acute treatment with Dox in clinically relevant doses caused significant impairment of coronary arteriolar function, whereas vessels from pediatric subjects showed only marginal impairment to the same stressor. This interesting finding might explain the delayed onset of future adverse CV events in children compared to adults after anthracycline therapy.
  • Multimodality Imaging Markers of Adverse Myocardial Remodeling in Aortic Stenosis. [Review]
JACC Cardiovasc Imaging 2019; 12(8 Pt 1):1532-1548Treibel TA, Badiani S, … Moon JC
  • Aortic stenosis (AS) causes left ventricular remodeling (hypertrophy, remodeling, fibrosis) and other cardiac changes (left atrial dilatation, pulmonary artery and right ventricular changes). These changes, and whether they are reversible (reverse remodeling), are major determinants of timing and outcome from transcatheter or surgical aortic valve replacement. Cardiac changes in response to AS af…
