  • A pilot study of a smartphone-based monitoring intervention on head and neck cancer patients undergoing concurrent chemo-radiotherapy. [Journal Article]
    Int J Med Inform 2019; 129:404-412Zini EM, Lanzola G, … Resteghini C
  • CONCLUSIONS: This study was meant to explore the context of outpatients' remote monitoring through the collection of patient-reported outcomes. The intervention for a proactive approach to symptoms monitoring in curatively treated head and neck cancer patients resulted feasible and acceptable by both patients and oncologists. The study revealed a criticality on the perceived usefulness, but, at the same time, the patients' comments suggested how to improve this aspect. Further actions will need to focus on measuring the impact of HeNeA on the process of care and on the health outcomes.
  • Tumor Biology and Multidisciplinary Strategies of Oligometastasis in Gastrointestinal Cancers. [Review]
Semin Cancer Biol 2019Zhao Y, Li J, … Bruns CJ
  • More than 70% of gastrointestinal (GI) cancers are diagnosed with metastases, leading to poor prognosis. For some cancer patients with limited sites of metastatic tumors, the term oligometastatic disease (OMD) has been coined as opposed to systemic polymetastasis (PMD) disease. Stephan Paget first described an organ-specific pattern of metastasis in 1889, now known as the "seed and soil" theory w…
  • Unique T cell populations define immune-inflamed Hepatocellular Carcinoma. [Journal Article]
Cell Mol Gastroenterol Hepatol 2019Di Blasi D, Boldanova T, … De Libero G
  • CONCLUSIONS: Unique populations of activated T cells are present in HCC tissue, whose antigen specificity remains to be investigated. Some of these cell populations are functionally impaired and Nivolumab treatment restores their responsiveness. The finding of ongoing immune response within the tumor shows which lymphocyte populations are impaired within the HCC and identifies the patients that might take benefit from immunotherapy.
