  • Ion Abundance Ratios of Qualitative Analysis by GC-MS of 4 Common Drugs (Poisons. [Journal Article]
Fa Yi Xue Za Zhi 2019; 35(6):687-694Liu SD, Min T, … Zhang DM
  • Objective To investigate the maximum allowable deviation of ion abundance ratios of characteristic fragment ions in common drugs (poisons) in blood by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) method. Methods Four common drugs (poisons) (dichlorvos, phorate, diazepam and estazolam) were detected by GC-MS full scan mode after liquid-liquid extraction in two laboratories and under three chromato…
  • Stability of ten psychotropic drugs in formalin-fixed porcine liver homogenates. [Journal Article]
    Forensic Sci Int 2020; 307:110136Asano M, Yoshioka N, … Ueno Y
  • In forensic toxicology studies, drug concentrations must be estimated by the analytical data of formalin-fixed tissues if fresh or frozen tissue specimens are not available. We wished to investigate the stability and time-course of metabolism/degradation of drugs in formalin-fixed tissues using porcine liver homogenates (PLHs) instead of human tissue. Ten psychotropic drugs (amitriptyline, brotiz…
  • Clinical effectiveness of Tui Na for insomnia compared with estazolam: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials. [Review]
    Complement Ther Med 2019; 47:102186Feng G, Han M, … Miao Y
  • CONCLUSIONS: Tui Na therapy appeared to be superior to estazolam therapy in treating areas(head; abdomen), while there was no significant difference between Tui Na therapy and estazolam therapy in treating areas(head and trunk; head, trunk and extremities). No serious adverse event was reported in Tui Na therapy. However the methodological quality and evidence quality were not satisfied. Therefore we could not make a convincing conclusion on the effectiveness and safety of Tui Na therapy for insomnia. Practitioners should combine their experience, evidence of our review and patients' preferences to make a proper treatment. And more high quality RCTs and well-designed protocols of Tui Na therapy for insomnia are needed in the future.
  • LiverTox: Clinical and Research Information on Drug-Induced Liver Injury: Estazolam [BOOK]
National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases: Bethesda (MD)BOOK
  • Estazolam is an orally available benzodiazepine used to treat insomnia. As with most benzodiazepines, estazolam therapy has not associated with serum aminotransferase or alkaline phosphatase elevations, and clinically apparent liver injury from estazolam has not been reported and must be very rare, if it occurs at all.
  • LiverTox: Clinical and Research Information on Drug-Induced Liver Injury: Benzodiazepines [BOOK]
National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases: Bethesda (MD)BOOK
  • The benzodiazepines are a large class of medications that have multiple clinical uses including therapy of anxiety, insomnia, muscle spasm, alcohol withdrawal and seizures. As a class, the benzodiazepines do not cause significant serum enzyme elevations and have been linked to only very rare instances of acute, symptomatic liver disease. The pharmacological effects of the benzodiazepines are a re…
  • Anticholinergic and sedative medications exposure in older patients: a cross-sectional study. [Journal Article]
    Int J Clin Pharm 2019; 41(5):1152-1158Zhang X, Zhou S, … Liu X
  • Background The Drug Burden Index is a risk assessment tool used to quantify anticholinergic and sedative medications burden of older patients. There have been no previously published reports the exposure of anticholinergic and sedative medications in China. Objective We investigated the prevalence and correlates risk factors of anticholinergic and sedative medications in hospitalized older patien…
  • A Fatal Case of Poisoning with Fentanyl Transdermal Patches in Japan. [Case Reports]
    J Forensic Sci 2019; 64(6):1936-1942Nara A, Yamada C, … Takagi T
  • Fentanyl transdermal patches have been used to treat cancer- and noncancer-related chronic pain. However, its inappropriate or illegal application may cause fatal poisoning. We herein present the case of a Japanese woman in her 40s who was found dead with seven 25-μg/h fentanyl transdermal patches on her body. We established a detailed toxicological analysis procedure to quantify fentanyl, and it…
