  • Anticancer activities of vitamin K3 analogues. [Journal Article]
Invest New Drugs 2019Wellington KW, Hlatshwayo V, … Motadi LR
  • In a previous study we reported on the synthesis of 1,4-naphthoquinone-sulfides by thiolation of 1,4-naphthohydroquinones with primary aryl and alkyl thiols using laccase as catalyst. These compounds were synthesized as Vitamin K3 analogues. Vitamin K3 (VK3; 2-methyl-1,4-naphthoquinone; menadione) is known to have potent anticancer activity. This investigation reports on the anticancer activity o…
  • Neuroendocrine Tumor: A Rare, Aggressive Tumor of the Gallbladder. [Case Reports]
    Cureus 2019; 11(9):e5571Hussain I, Sarvepalli D, … Ullah W
  • We report a case of rare and aggressive gallbladder neuroendocrine carcinoma (GB-NEC), diagnosed with the help of endoscopic ultrasound (EUS). A 65-year-old asymptomatic male, with a past medical history of hypertension, underwent abdominal ultrasound for the screening of an abdominal aortic aneurysm. He was found to have a mixed echogenicity area near the stomach, an incidental finding on abdomi…
  • Glucoside Derivatives Of Podophyllotoxin: Synthesis, Physicochemical Properties, And Cytotoxicity. [Journal Article]
    Drug Des Devel Ther 2019; 13:3683-3692Zi CT, Yang L, … Zhou J
  • CONCLUSIONS: We synthesized several glucoside derivatives of PPT and tested their cytotoxicity. Among them, compound 6b showed the highest cytotoxicity. Further studies including selectivity of active compounds have shown that the selectivity indexes of 6b are much greater than the etoposide except in the case of HL-60 cell line. The active compounds possessed similar physicochemical properties. This study indicates that active glucoside analogs of podophyllotoxin have potential as lead compounds for developing novel anticancer agents.
