  • Interventions to improve psychosocial well-being in female BRCA-mutation carriers following risk-reducing surgery. [Review]
    Cochrane Database Syst Rev 2019; 10:CD012894Jeffers L, Reid J, … Dempster M
  • CONCLUSIONS: The effect of psychosocial interventions on quality of life and emotional well-being in female BRCA carriers who undergo risk-reducing surgery is uncertain given the very low methodological quality in the two studies included in the review. The absence of such interventions highlights the need for partnership between researchers and clinicians in this specific area to take forward the patient-reported outcomes and develop interventions to address the psychosocial issues related to risk-reducing surgery in female BRCA carriers, particularly in this new era of genomics, where testing may become more mainstream and many more women are identified as gene carriers.
  • LESS with Suture Suspension for Early-Stage Adnexa Cancer Staging. [Journal Article]
    JSLS 2019 Jul-Sep; 23(3)Lin C, Ying Z, … Xi Biao J
  • CONCLUSIONS: Laparoendoscopic single-site surgery may be a feasible and safe technique for staging early-stage ovarian/tubal cancer. This approach has some advantages included providing easier access to the upper abdominal regions when performing high-level infrarenal para-aortic lymphadenectomy; the 2-cm elastic incision favors fast specimen extraction and colpotomy are avoided. However, the long-term oncologic outcomes need to be further investigated.
  • Re-assessing microbiomes in the low-biomass reproductive niche. [Review]
BJOG 2019O'Callaghan JL, Turner R, … Pelzer ES
  • The female reproductive tract represents a continuum between the vagina and the upper genital tract. New evidence from cultivation-independent studies suggests that the female upper genital tract is not sterile, however the significance of this for reproductive health and disease remains to be fully elucidated. Further, diagnosis and treatment of infectious reproductive tract pathologies using cu…
  • Optical Resolution Photoacoustic Microscopy of Ovary and Fallopian Tube. [Journal Article]
    Sci Rep 2019; 9(1):14306Rao B, Leng X, … Zhu Q
  • Ovarian cancer is the leading cause of death among gynecological cancers, but is poorly amenable to preoperative diagnosis. In this study, we investigate the feasibility of "optical biopsy," using high-optical-resolution photoacoustic microscopy (OR-PAM) to quantify the microvasculature of ovarian and fallopian tube tissue. The technique is demonstrated using excised human ovary and fallopian tub…
