  • Recurrent Chemical Meningitis Due to Parasellar Epidermoid Cyst. [Case Reports]
    Cureus 2018; 10(10):e3496Trikamji B, Morrow M
  • Intracranial epidermoid cysts are exceedingly rare lesions that result from a disorder of gastrulation. They are seen only in the pediatric patient population. We describe a 44-year-old Hispanic woman who presented with acute confusion. The family reported two months of progressive headaches and two weeks of fever, blurred central vision, and restricted visual fields. On examination, the patient …
  • Brain correlates of spike and wave discharges in GLUT1 deficiency syndrome. [Journal Article]
    Neuroimage Clin 2017; 13:446-454Vaudano AE, Olivotto S, … Meletti S
  • CONCLUSIONS: The BOLD dynamics related to GSWD in GLUT1DS are substantially different from typical GGE showing the former an increased activity in the premotor-striatal network and a decrease in the thalamus. The revealed hemodynamic maps might represent imaging biomarkers of GLUT1DS, being potentially useful for a precocious diagnosis of this genetic disorder.
  • [Community acquired bacterial meningitis in patients over 60]. [Journal Article]
Medicina (B Aires) 2015; 75(6):367-72Mora Mora LA, Arco Espinosa ME, … Micheli F
  • Acute bacterial meningitis has a global mortality rate of 135000 cases per year. In Argentina over the last 12 years, the annual incidence rate has been 5.5/100 000. About 20% of patients present neurological sequelae, which are more common in patients aged 60 or older. Our objective here is to determine the clinical characteristics, the most common causes and to measure evolution in patients ove…
  • Tuberculosis meningo-encephalitis with positive csf for KB and slowly favourable evolution. Case report. [Case Reports]
Rev Med Chir Soc Med Nat Iasi 2012 Jul-Sep; 116(3):804-7Hurmuzache ME, Luca C, … Dorobat C
  • CONCLUSIONS: The beginning of the tuberculosis infection symptoms is often surprising, with clinical signs regarding secondary determinations (meningoencephalitis) association with another infection (otitis--wrong diagnosis). as well as persistent yet slowly favorably evolving symptoms, both clinically and paraclinically (CSF parameters). The etiological agent is extremely rarely isolated, due to a very slow growth of the Koch bacillus on special culture mediums and also because such diagnosis is not often considered before starting the treatment.
  • Meningeal carcinomatosis as the first manifestation of malignant carcinomatosis. [Case Reports]
    Bratisl Lek Listy 2009; 110(8):490-5Gdovinova Z, Feketeova E, … Banik P
  • Meningeal carcinomatosis (MC) is a malignant infiltration of the leptomeninges and subarachnoid space and can be a devastating complication of a systemic malignancy. Although often found in patients with known metastatic malignancies, MC can also be the initial manifestation of an underlying malignancy. We report four case studies where back pain, dizziness, cognitive decline, headache and headac…
  • [Importance of cerebrospinal fluid control tests in bacterial meningitis cases as a discharge criterion]. [Journal Article]
Rev Soc Bras Med Trop 2008 Mar-Apr; 41(2):189-92Cabral DB, Bezerra PC, … Mendizabal Mde F
  • There is controversy regarding indications for cerebrospinal fluid control tests on patients who have clinically recovered from bacterial meningitis, as a cure criterion. Some authors advocate discharge after confirmation of clinical and cerebrospinal fluid normalization, while others maintain that cerebrospinal fluid analysis is not justified in all cases. This case series with group comparisons…
  • [Bickerstaff's brainstem encephalitis with positive findings on head MRI--case report]. [Classical Article]
    Brain Nerve 2008; 60(3):287-90Hori S, Fukuda O, … Endo S
  • We report a case of Bickerstaff's brainstem encephalitis (BBE) with positive findings on head MRI. Abnormal lesions on head MRI were detected in approximately 30% cases of BBE. An 81-year-old female presented with disturbance of consciousness (Japan Coma Scale 200), ophthalmoplegia (downward deviation) and tetraplegia. Cerebrospinal fluid examination revealed mild pleocytosis 244 cells in 3 micro…
  • [Mumps meningitis: a case mix in a Neurology Department]. [Journal Article]
    Rev Neurol 2005 Apr 1-15; 40(7):420-2Jiménez-Caballero PE, Serviá M, … Alvarez-Tejerina A
  • CONCLUSIONS: Vaccination campaigns have drastically reduced the number of cases of meningitis due to this germ since the second half of the 90s. This virus must be borne in mind in cases of meningitis in young males who come from underdeveloped countries.
