  • Vulvar Majocchi granuloma and kerion formation in an immunocompetent female. [Journal Article]
Dermatol Online J 2019; 25(9)Labadie JG, Guggina LM
  • We report a rare case of vulvar Majocchi granuloma and kerion formation secondary to Trichophyton in an immunocompetent woman. The patient responded well to oral terbinafine and a short course of oral corticosteroids with a slow taper. Resolution of deep dermatophytosis requires prompt pathogen identification and treatment to avoid scarring and hair loss. Herein, we aim to increase clinical aware…
  • PI3-Kinase δγ Catalytic Isoforms Regulate the Th-17 Response in Tuberculosis. [Review]
    Front Immunol 2019; 10:2583Leisching GR
  • Although IL17A plays a protective role at the mucosal surface, when IL17A signaling becomes dysregulated, a pathological response is locally induced. At the early stages of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M.tb) infection, IL17A contributes to granuloma formation and pathogen containment. In contrast, during disease progression, a dysregulated IL17A hyperinflammatory response drives tissue destruction…
  • Percutaneous cryoablation of benign bony tumours of the mandible. [Journal Article]
    Br J Oral Maxillofac Surg 2019May L, Blatter J, … Broome M
  • Treatment of bony tumours of the oral and maxillofacial area usually involve resection. However, access to certain areas may be difficult because of the size or site of the tumour. A poor view of the lesion during operation is another limiting factor, which can lead to incomplete resection in difficult cases. Percutaneous cryoablation is a common procedure for treating benign and malignant bony l…
  • Differential Diagnosis of Periapical Radiopacities and Radiolucencies. [Review]
Dent Clin North Am 2020; 64(1):163-189Mupparapu M, Shi KJ, Ko E
  • Periapical pathoses represent changes noted at the apices of teeth within the alveolar process that are suspected on examination, visualized via imaging, and confirmed via histopathology. They can be bone forming or destructive. There are pathologic entities that show both types of changes at the apical regions. These lesions must be identified if they are odontogenic in origin because treatment …
  • Mycobacterial Trehalose 6,6'-Dimycolate Induced M1-Type Inflammation. [Journal Article]
    Am J Pathol 2019Nguyen TKT, d'Aigle J, … Actor JK
  • Murine models of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) infection demonstrate progression of M1-like (pro-inflammatory) and M2-like (anti-inflammatory) macrophage morphology following primary granuloma formation. The Mtb cell wall cording factor, trehalose 6,6'-dimycolate (TDM), is a physiologically-relevant and useful molecule for modeling early macrophage-mediated events during establishment of the t…
  • Phaeohyphomycotic Rhinitis Caused by Bipolaris hawaiiensis in a Horse. [Journal Article]
    J Equine Vet Sci 2019; 82:102798Legere RM, Wooldridge AA, … Cole R
  • This case represents the first reported case of Bipolaris hawaiiensis infection in an equid, and its aggressive clinical course. This case provides important descriptive and prognostic information for horses diagnosed with phaeohyphomycotic rhinitis. A 19-year-old American Quarter Horse mare was presented for second opinion of stertor and exercise intolerance of four-month duration. Endoscopy rev…
  • A new synthetic toll-like receptor 1/2 ligand is an efficient adjuvant for peptide vaccination in a human volunteer. [Journal Article]
J Immunother Cancer 2019; 7(1):307Rammensee HG, Wiesmüller KH, … Löffler MW
  • CONCLUSIONS: Thus, in one volunteer we show a granuloma forming by peptides combined with an efficient adjuvant in a water-in-oil-emulsion, inducing antigen specific T cells detectable in circulation and at the vaccination site, after one single vaccination only. The ex vivo T cell responses in peripheral blood were detectable for more than one year and could be strongly boosted by a second vaccination. Hence, XS15 is a promising adjuvant candidate for peptide vaccination, in particular for tumor peptide vaccines in a personalized setting.
