  • Effect of HO-1 cDNA-liposome complex transfer on erectile signalling of aged rats. [Journal Article]
    Andrologia 2009; 41(3):176-83Abdel Aziz MT, Mostafa T, … Mouhamed O
  • This work aimed to assess the efficacy of haeme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) cDNA-liposome complex transfer as a mediator of erectile signalling in aged rats. One hundred and fifty aged white albino rats were equally divided into five groups: controls, rats receiving lipofectamine, rats receiving intracorporeal HO-1 cDNA-lipsome complex, rats receiving HO-1 cDNA-liposome complex plus nitric oxide synthase …
  • Erectile dysfunction and priapism. [Case Reports]
Nat Clin Pract Urol 2004; 1(1):49-53; quiz 1 p following 53Bochinski DJ, Dean RC, Lue TF
  • A 46-year-old man presented with erectile dysfunction following a blunt perineal injury sustained 1 year previously. Oral phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors failed to improve his erections. The remainder of the patient's history, physical examination and laboratory tests were unremarkable except for a moderate tenderness in the left perineum and some 'fullness' in the corpora cavernosa during ph…
  • Cyclic AMP-specific and cyclic GMP-specific phosphodiesterase isoenzymes in human cavernous arteries--immunohistochemical distribution and functional significance. [Journal Article]
    World J Urol 2005; 23(6):405-10Waldkirch E, Uckert S, … Hedlund P
  • CONCLUSIONS: The cGMP-dependent relaxation of cavernous arteries is not only dependent on the normal function of the peripheral autonomic nervous system but also on the functional integrity of the vascular endothelium. The expression of the cGMP-specific PDE5 and the ability of the PDE5 inhibitor sildenafil to reverse the adrenergic tension of isolated segments of HCA underline the important role of the NO/cGMP pathway in the control of smooth muscle tone of human trabecular smooth musculature and penile cavernous arteries. Our results also suggest a significance of the cAMP-dependent signaling mechanisms in the regulation of tension of central HCAs. The present findings are also in support of the hypothesis of interactions between the cGMP- and cAMP-mediated signaling pathways in HCAs. Further investigations are indicated in order to outline potential differences between central HCAs and helicine resistance arteries. This may help to understand better the relations between structural and functional changes in the penile erectile tissue in patients with cardiovascular diseases and endothelial dysfunction.
  • A safe and reliable technique in the management of preauricular sinus. [Journal Article]
Indian J Otolaryngol Head Neck Surg 2005; 57(4):294-5Vijayendra H, Sangeetha R, Chetty KR
  • Preauricular sinus/pit is a common congenital malformation, which presents as a pit or depression at the anterior margin of the ascending margin of helix, adjacent to helicine crux, or adjacent to the tragus. It is inherited as an autosomal dominant incomplete pattern with variable power of expression. It is due to a defect in the auricular embyrogenesis, which results in the preauricular sinus o…
