  • Transition to Employment Program (SUPER) for Youth at Risk: A Conceptual and Practical Model. [Journal Article]
    Int J Environ Res Public Health. 2020 May 31; 17(11)Ivzori Y, Sachs D, … Schreuer N
  • This article describes the development, implementation, and evaluation of the transdisciplinary "Successful Pathways to Employment for youth at Risk" (SUPER) program to raise the transition readiness of youth at risk (YAR) from school into participation in adults' responsibilities and employment. More than 10% of adolescents are at risk of dropping out of school following poor academic attainment…
  • Postmortem Changes of Female External Genitalia and Their Importance in Suspected Sexual Abuse. [Journal Article]
J Forensic Sci. 2020 Jun 01 [Online ahead of print]Al-Saif DM, Al-Farayedhi MA, … Kharoshah MA
  • Examination of the female external genitalia to assess for sexual abuse is performed in living individuals, and the interpretation of the findings is based on evidence-based studies. However, in the deceased, no such studies are available, and postmortem changes could present as suspicious findings that can be mistaken for trauma. Patches of discoloration in the hymen were reported previously in …
  • The concept of virginity from the perspective of Iranian adolescents: a qualitative study. [Journal Article]
    BMC Public Health. 2020 May 19; 20(1):717.Mehrolhassani MH, Yazdi-Feyzabadi V, … Oroomiei N
  • CONCLUSIONS: The most reliable policy on STD prevention is the lack of premarital sex. The success of this policy is related to the concept of virginity. The findings of this study showed that the participants did not consider physical contact as the breach of virginity. This may indicate that the policy of not having sex before marriage or lack of premarital sex is not enough and Iranian adolescents are at risk of STDs. Therefore, policymakers must take steps towards modifying the concept of virginity in the adolescents' value system and provide and implement educational programs on sexual health for adolescents.
  • [People’s perceptions of violence against women in Senegal.] [Journal Article]
Sante Publique. 2019 July August; Vol. 31(4):581-590.Leye MM, Sougou NM, … Dia AT
  • CONCLUSIONS: The aggressor’s domination use threats to compel the victim to denunciation. Indeed, sexual coercion, the physical or verbal pressure to have sex, are among the most frequently noted gestures in this regard. It is important for the health and judicial authorities to implement a plan for the fight against violence, which focuses on communication in order to make people aware of the rights and place of women in the community.
  • Pelvic organ prolapse surgery and quality of life - a nationwide cohort study. [Journal Article]
    Am J Obstet Gynecol. 2019 Dec 10 [Online ahead of print]Mattsson NK, Karjalainen P, … Jalkanen J
  • CONCLUSIONS: Pelvic organ prolapse surgery improved health-related quality of life in 7 out of 10 patients over a 2-year follow-up period, and patient satisfaction was high. Apical prolapse beyond the hymen and vaginal bulge were the most consistent predictors for improvement. Our results suggest that patients should be encouraged to stop smoking to avoid an unfavorable outcome.
  • Dynamic rodent behavioral response to predation risk: implications for disease ecology. [Journal Article]
Oecologia. 2020 Jan; 192(1):67-78.Moll RJ, Eaton JT, … Montgomery RA
  • Prey modify their behavior in response to variation in predation risk, and such modifications can affect trophic processes such as disease transmission. However, variation in predation risk is complex, arising from direct risk from the predator itself and indirect risk due to the environment. Moreover, direct risk typically stems from multiple predators and varies over timescales (e.g., a predato…
  • [Clinical analysis for 156 cases of vaginoscopy in young girls and adolescent girls]. [Journal Article]

  • Imperforate hymen and leaking hematosalpinx mimicking acute appendicitis: A report of a rare case and a review of literature. [Journal Article]
    Int J Surg Case Rep. 2019; 63:69-74.Amponsah-Manu F, Ssentongo P, … Oh JS
  • CONCLUSIONS: Imperforate hymen commonly presents with cyclic abdominal pain and enlarging mass in premenarchal females, it is rare to present with hemoperitoneum and mimicking acute appendicitis.Although rare, imperforate hymen with retrograde menstruation that causes dilatation of the vagina and uterus (i.e., hematocolpometra) is an important consideration in the differential diagnosis of abdominal pain in premenarchal females with abdominal pain. It is easily diagnosed by physical examination. However, if patient or parents refuse genital exam evaluation, imaging studies can greatly help with diagnosis. Ultrasound will show an echogenic fluid accumulation in the vagina that can extend to uterus.
  • Longitudinal Changes in the Genital Hiatus Preceding the Development of Pelvic Organ Prolapse. [Journal Article]
    Am J Epidemiol. 2019 12 31; 188(12):2196-2201.Handa VL, Blomquist JL, … Muñoz A
  • We aimed to explore relationships between changes in genital hiatus (GH) and development of pelvic organ prolapse using data from the Mothers' Outcomes After Delivery (MOAD) Study, a Baltimore, Maryland, cohort study of parous women who underwent annual assessments during 2008-2018. Prolapse was defined as any vaginal segment protrusion beyond the hymen or reported prolapse surgery. For each case…
  • StatPearls: Rectocele [BOOK]
. StatPearls Publishing: Treasure Island (FL) Ladd Megan M Touro University California Tuma Faiz F Central Michigan University BOOK
  • Rectocele is a variety of pelvic organ prolapse (POP) that involves the herniation of the rectum through the rectovaginal septum into the posterior vaginal lumen. Anatomically, the vagina begins at the hymenal ring and terminates at the cervix. The bladder lies anterior to the vagina, while the rectum lies posterior to the vagina. The vagina has support at three levels. Most superiorly, it is sup…
  • Association between adjuvant posterior repair and success of native tissue apical suspension. [Journal Article]
Am J Obstet Gynecol. 2019 Aug 23 [Online ahead of print]Sutkin G, Zyczynski HM, … NICHD Pelvic Floor Disorders Network
  • CONCLUSIONS: Concomitant posterior repair at sacrospinous ligament fixation or uterosacral ligament suspension was not associated with surgical success after adjusting for baseline covariates using propensity scores or unadjusted comparison. Posterior repair may not compensate for the pathophysiology that leads to enlarged preoperative genital hiatus, which remains prognostic of prolapse recurrence.
