  • Digestibility of Insect Meals for Nile Tilapia Fingerlings. [Journal Article]
Animals (Basel) 2019; 9(4)Fontes TV, de Oliveira KRB, … Rosa PVE
  • Insects are a valuable source of nutrients for fish, but little is known about their nutritional value for Nile tilapia fingerlings. To evaluate the nutritional value and energy apparent digestibility coefficient (ADC) of five insects for Nile Tilapia male fingerlings, 900 fish were distributed in 18 fiberglass conic tanks, in a completely randomized design, with six dietary treatments (control, …
  • Insight into the confusion over surfactant co-formulants in glyphosate-based herbicides. [Review]
Food Chem Toxicol 2019; 128:137-145Mesnage R, Benbrook C, Antoniou MN
  • Glyphosate is the active ingredient in glyphosate-based herbicides (GBHs). Other chemicals in GBHs are presumed as inert by regulatory authorities and are largely ignored in pesticide safety evaluations. We identified the surfactants in a cross-section of GBH formulations and compared their acute toxic effects. The first generation of polyethoxylated amine (POEA) surfactants (POE-tallowamine) in …
  • Novel hydrophilic matrix system with non-uniform drug distribution for zero-order release kinetics. [Journal Article]
    J Control Release 2018; 287:247-256Cerea M, Maroni A, … Gazzaniga A
  • A decrease in the release rate over time is typically encountered when dealing with hydrophilic matrix systems for oral prolonged release due to progressive increase of the distance the drug molecules have to cover to diffuse outwards and reduction of the area of the glassy matrix at the swelling front. In order to solve this issue, a novel formulation approach based on non-uniform distribution o…
  • Are Excipients Inert? Phenytoin Pharmaceutical Investigations with New Incompatibility Insights. [Journal Article]
    J Pharm Pharm Sci 2018; 21(1s):29745Amaral Silva D, Löbenberg R, Davies NM
  • CONCLUSIONS: In Canada and the USA, the reference product contains lactose as an excipient in the formulation, whereas the Canadian generic formulations do not contain lactose. Any clinical relevance of these difference has not been determined. A new incompatibility between phenytoin and lactose has been discovered and an incompatibility with calcium was confirmed, which may have implications in regard to excipients and food effects. This article is open to POST-PUBLICATION REVIEW. Registered readers (see "For Readers") may comment by clicking on ABSTRACT on the issue's contents page.
  • Editorial Commentary: The Acrid Bioscrew in Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction of the Knee. [Editorial]
Arthroscopy 2017; 33(12):2195-2197Pinczewski LA, Salmon LJ
  • Bioresorbable screws have been widely adopted for graft fixation in knee anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction on the promise of screw resorbtion and replacement by bone. When considering the value of bioresorbable screws, it is imperative to understand that the "A" in PGA and PLA, the base ingredient of all bioscrews, is for Acid. All resorb by a process of hydrolysis; the speed and ex…
