  • Base Promoted Intumescence of Phenols. [Journal Article]
    Polymers (Basel). 2020 Jan 23; 12(2)Ji Y, Yao Q, … Zhao Y
  • : The intumescent process of sodium (substituted) phenolates has been studied. The generation of hydrogen radical via a homolytic cleavage of the Ar-H bond and the subsequent hydroarylation of phenolates to cyclohexadienes along with cyclization and elimination reactions of cyclohexadienes are critical steps in the base promoted intumescence of phenols. The substituents show great influence on th…
  • Sulfur-Based Copolymeric Polyamidoamines as Efficient Flame-Retardants for Cotton. [Journal Article]
    Polymers (Basel). 2019 Nov 19; 11(11)Beduini A, Carosio F, … Alongi J
  • The polyamidoamine derived from N,N'-methylenebisacrylamide (M) and glycine (G), M-G, has been shown to be an effective flame-retardant (FR) for cotton in horizontal flame spread tests (HFST), extinguishing the flame at 5% add-on. Its activity was attributed to its intrinsic intumescence. In vertical flame spread tests (VFST), M-G failed to extinguish the flame even at 30% add-on. Conversely, in …
  • Vertebromedullary Topography of the Red-Rumped Agouti (Dasyprocta leporina Linnaeus, 1758). [Journal Article]
Anat Rec (Hoboken). 2020 May; 303(5):1472-1477.Araújo Júnior HN, Oliveira GB, … Oliveira MF
  • The agouti is a wild rodent located almost throughout the Brazilian territory, with great scientific importance and high reproductive potential when farmed. In the clinical routine, clinical and surgical procedures are performed on the nervous system of these animals, such as epidural anesthesia and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) collection; however, data available are limited in literature on the mai…
  • Canine Snake-Eye Myelopathy: Clinical, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, and Pathologic Findings in Four Cases. [Case Reports]
Front Vet Sci. 2019; 6:219.Rossmeisl JH, Cecere TE, … Stahle JA
  • Intramedullary signal change (ISC) is a non-specific finding that is frequently observed on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examinations of the canine spinal cord. ISC can represent a variety of primary pathological processes such as neoplasms or myelitides or secondary changes such as edema, cysts, gliosis, or myelomalacia. An unusual phenotype of ISC is the "snake-eye" myelopathy (SEM), which …
  • Phacomorphic Angle-closure Following Silicone Oil Tamponade in a Pediatric Patient. [Case Reports]
    J Glaucoma. 2018 06; 27(6):e106-e109.Leung VC, Fung SSM, … Ali A
  • CONCLUSIONS: Acute angle-closure in children is a rare event. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of phacomorphic glaucoma secondary to vitreoretinal surgery in the pediatric population. Although uncommon, ophthalmologists should be aware of this potential complication with the intraocular use of SO and administer urgent treatment accordingly.
  • Multifocal Spinal Cord Nephroblastoma in a Dog. [Case Reports]
J Comp Pathol. 2018 Jan; 158:12-16.Henker LC, Bianchi RM, … Pavarini SP
  • A 1-year-old male American pit bull terrier was presented with a history of proprioceptive deficits and mild lameness of the right hindlimb, which progressed after 5 months to paraparesis, culminating in tetraparesis after 2 weeks. Necropsy findings were limited to the spinal cord and consisted of multiple, intradural, extramedullary, slightly red masses which produced segmental areas of medullar…
  • Phaco capsulotomy: a technique to prevent the Argentinean Flag Sign. [Journal Article]
    Clin Ophthalmol. 2017; 11:1937-1940.Teng CC
  • The Argentinean Flag Sign is a complication that occurs during capsulorhexis construction, in which the capsulorhexis extends to the periphery due to lens intumescence. Phaco capsulotomy is a technique in which the phacoemulsification tip is used to simultaneously create the initial tear in the anterior capsule and remove a portion of the intumescent lens, thereby debulking and relieving pressure…
  • Positive vitreous pressure: Pathophysiology, complications, prevention, and management. [Review]
    Surv Ophthalmol. 2017 Mar - Apr; 62(2):127-133.Chronopoulos A, Thumann G, Schutz J
  • Positive vitreous pressure occurs during anterior segment intraocular surgery associated with acute hypotony and is characterized by forward displacement of the lens-iris diaphragm with shallowing of the anterior chamber resistant to reformation, repeated iris prolapse, and, in severe cases, zonular rupture and vitreous or lens prolapse that can lead to a cascade of intraoperative complications. …
  • Important Parameter Groups in Thermal Protection of Polymers. [Journal Article]
    Materials (Basel). 2015 Jul 24; 8(8):4679-4698.Staggs J
  • The problem of thermal protection is explored for two idiosyncratic reactive systems, namely a sacrificial heat-sink material and an intumescent system where a dynamically evolving insulation layer is produced from an initially thin coating. Relatively simple mathematical models of both systems are proposed that encompass the important physical characteristics of each situation and these models a…
