  • Copper(I)-Catalyzed Cyanoperfluoroalkylation of Alkynes. [Journal Article]
    Org Lett 2019Israr M, Xiong H, … Bao H
  • A highly chemoselective and regioselective copper-catalyzed radical cyanoperfluoroalkylation of alkynes is described. This three-component reaction directly uses commercially available alkynes, perfluoroalkyl iodides, and trimethylsilyl cyanide as the reaction partners and delivers a variety of perfluoroalkylated cyanoalkenes in good yields. Broad substrate scope and good functional group toleran…
  • Evaluation of prevention and disruption of biofilm in contact lens cases. [Journal Article]
Ophthalmic Physiol Opt 2019Cho P, Boost MV
  • CONCLUSIONS: Biofilm can rapidly form in lens cases and may not be killed by disinfecting solutions. Of the solutions tested, none were able to prevent biofilm formation or disrupt established biofilm, but those containing chlorhexidine or povidone iodine were able to penetrate the biofilm and kill organisms. Assessment of biofilm by CV assay may be confounded by lens case design. Whilst CV assay can demonstrate presence of biofilm, this technique should be accompanied by viability assay to determine bactericidal activity.
  • Synthesis of 9-O-arylated berberines via copper-catalyzed CAr-O coupling reactions. [Journal Article]
    Beilstein J Org Chem 2019; 15:1575-1580Teng Q, Zhu X, … Meng Q
  • Berberine is a widely used antimicrobial agent in clinic. However, a high dosage is often required due to its low lipophilicity and bioavailability. The current study explores the structural modifications of berberines with potentially lipophilic aryl groups to address this problem. A series of 15 9-O-aryl-substituted berberines (3a-o) and one 9-O-phenylene-bridged berberine dimer (5) was synthes…
