  • Three-dimensional printing of molluscan shell inspired architectures via fused deposition modeling. [Journal Article]
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2020 Jul 02 [Online ahead of print]Padole M, Gharde S, Kandasubramanian B
  • Nature always astonishes us with its marvelous creations which act as a model for acquiring a solution to complex human problems, this practice of designing and manufacturing the product replicating processes that occur in nature is referred to as biomimicking. Molluscan shell is nature's one such offering that delivers remarkable mechanical properties by virtue of its hierarchical multi-layered …
  • Two-dimensional Janus-like particles on a triangular lattice. [Journal Article]
    Soft Matter. 2020 Jul 03 [Online ahead of print]Patrykiejew A, Rżysko W
  • We have studied the phase behavior of a two-dimensional system of Janus-like particles on a triangular lattice using the Monte Carlo method in a grand canonical ensemble. Assuming that each particle can take on only one of the six orientations, two versions of the model have been considered. In the first version, the strength of attractive interactions has been assumed to depend on the degree to …
  • [Degradation of RBK5 by High Crystallinity Mn-Fe LDH Catalyst Activating Peroxymonosulfate]. [Journal Article]
Huan Jing Ke Xue. 2020 Jun 08; 41(6):2736-2745.Li L, Wu LY, … Hong JM
  • High crystallinity Mn-Fe LDH was synthesized by improved co-precipitation combined with the hydrothermal method and was utilized as a catalyst for peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation to degrade reactive black 5. The high crystal purity and clear lamellar structure were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer (EDS), Fourier …
  • Lamellar Inclusions within Hyperplastic Endoplasmic Reticulum in Benign Mesothelial Cells. [Journal Article]
    Acta Cytol. 2020 Jun 29 [Online ahead of print]Haefliger S, Jain D, … Bubendorf L
  • CONCLUSIONS: Cytoplasmic LIs located within hyperplastic rER can be found in up to 14% of effusions restricted to benign mesothelial cells. They can be used as an indirect morphological clue favoring the diagnosis of benign effusion and helping the cytologist to differentiate between reactive and malignant mesothelial cells in daily practice.
  • Swept-Source OCT and Swept-Source OCT Angiography before and after Vitrectomy with Stuffing of the Optic Pit. [Journal Article]
    Ophthalmol Retina. 2020 Apr 08 [Online ahead of print]Michalewska Z, Nawrocka Z, Nawrocki J
  • CONCLUSIONS: Stuffing of the optic disc pit with the ILM results in improvement of anatomic and functional results. Prognosis depends on initial morphologic features. Central retinal thickness normalizes faster after surgery in eyes with subretinal fluid when compared with eyes with intraretinal fluid. Faster anatomic improvement does not correlate with improvement of vision. Postoperative increase in the size of the foveal avascular zone in the superficial retinal vessel layer, more pronounced in group 2, may be associated with the prolonged postoperative anatomic recovery in those eyes.
  • Combined cataract surgery and lamellar endothelial keratoplasty in iridocorneal endothelial syndrome. [Journal Article]
Arch Soc Esp Oftalmol. 2020 Jun 25 [Online ahead of print]García Caride S, Cuiña Sardiña R, Perucho González L
  • The case is reported of a 59-year-old woman, who reported decreased visual acuity (VA) in the left eye (LE). On examination, a corrected VA of finger count/ 30cm was observed in LE. Corneal oedema and folds in the Descemet's membrane were observed using the slit lamp. Anterior synechiae, iris atrophy, and corectopia were also found. Iridocorneal endothelial syndrome (ICE) was diagnosed. The treat…
  • A protein phosphorylation module patterns the Bacillus subtilis spore outer coat. [Journal Article]
Mol Microbiol. 2020 Jun 26 [Online ahead of print]Freitas C, Plannic J, … Henriques AO
  • Assembly of the Bacillus subtilis spore coat involves over 80 proteins which self-organize into a basal layer, a lamellar inner coat, a striated electrodense outer coat and a more external crust. CotB is an abundant component of the outer coat. The C-terminal moiety of CotB, SKRB , formed by serine-rich repeats, is polyphosphorylated by the Ser/Thr kinase CotH. We show that another coat protein, …
  • Kocuria kristinae interface keratitis following deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty. [Case Reports]
    Indian J Ophthalmol. 2020 Jul; 68(7):1463-1466.Kate A, Joseph J, Bagga B
  • A 21-year-old boy underwent deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK) for advanced keratoconus. Postoperatively, slit lamp examination revealed multiple foci of interface infiltrates. Medical therapy was non-responsive, and therefore, a repeat lamellar transplantation was done. Scrapings were taken from host stroma and under the surface of the initial graft. Microbiological examination, aided by…
  • Posttraumatic deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty dehiscence: Descemet's resistance. [Case Reports]
    Indian J Ophthalmol. 2020 Jul; 68(7):1459-1461.Lakshmipathy M, Nangia P, Asokan R
  • An 18-year-old girl who had undergone deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty in her left eye for keratoconus a year back presented with inferonasal graft dehiscence with intact host Descemet's membrane and intact anterior chamber after sustaining blunt injury a week prior. The graft was sutured to the host bed, and complete resolution of graft edema was seen in 4 weeks. One year later, she underwent…
  • Post-stroke bilateral heterotopic ossification: An acute problem with long-lasting consequences. [Journal Article]
Jt Dis Relat Surg. 2020; 31(2):386-389.Ozen S, Bölük Şenlikci H, Ümit Yemişci O
  • Heterotopic ossification (HO) is a complication of injury to the central nervous system in which production of lamellar bone within the soft tissues occurs resulting in pain, reduced range of motion (ROM) and loss of functional capacity. Heterotopic ossification is rarely seen in stroke patients and mostly affects the paretic side. In this article, we present a case of established bilateral HO of…
  • Impact of high tidal volume ventilation on surfactant metabolism and lung injury in infant rats. [Journal Article]
Am J Physiol Lung Cell Mol Physiol. 2020 Jun 24 [Online ahead of print]Wiegert S, Greco F, … Cannizzaro V
  • The poorly understood tolerance towards high tidal volume (VT) ventilation observed in critically ill children and age-equivalent animal models may be explained by surfactant homeostasis. The aim of our prospective animal study was to test whether high VT with adequate positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) is associated with surfactant de novo synthesis and secretion leading to improved lung fu…
