  • Serum concentrations of TNF-α and its soluble receptors in Graves' disease. [Journal Article]
    Endocr Connect. 2020 Jul 01 [Online ahead of print]Zhu Q, Su J, … Zhang D
  • Graves' disease (GD), an organ-specific autoimmune disease, is the most common cause of hyperthyroidism. Tumour necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) exhibits immunological and metabolic activities involved in the induction and maintenance of immune responses. We attempted to evaluate the relationship between GD and serum TNF-α and its soluble receptors (sTNFRs), soluble tumour necrosis factor receptor 1…
  • [Hormones of stress-response system in alcohol dependence: the ability to predict duration of remission]. [Journal Article]
Zh Nevrol Psikhiatr Im S S Korsakova. 2020; 120(5):73-78.Vetlugina TP, Lobacheva OA, … Bokhan NA
  • CONCLUSIONS: Dysfunctions in the spectrum of stress-realizing hormones in patients with alcohol dependence in the time course of the therapy for withdrawal syndrome and post-withdrawal state were revealed, the main of which are high level of cortisol, testosterone, reduction of secretion of free thyroxine and free triiodothyronine. Patients with unstable therapeutic remission are characterized by a high concentration of testosterone after alcohol detoxification, which allows us to consider testosterone as a biological criterion that can increase the accuracy of prediction of the duration of remission after anti-alcohol therapy.
  • Differences in food consumption between patients with Hashimoto's thyroiditis and healthy individuals. [Journal Article]
    Sci Rep. 2020 Jun 30; 10(1):10670.Kaličanin D, Brčić L, … Boraska Perica V
  • Food is considered as important environmental factor that plays a role in development of Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT). The goal of our study was to identify food groups, assessed by food frequency questionnaire, that differ in consumption frequency between 491 patients with HT and 433 controls. We also analysed association of food groups with the wealth of HT-related clinical traits and symptoms.…
  • Effects of treatment with haloperidol and clozapine on the plasma concentrations of thyroid hormones in rats. [Journal Article]
    Endocr Regul. 2020 Apr 01; 54(2):71-76.Samadi A, Ziaee M, … Samadi M
  • CONCLUSIONS: Haloperidol and clozapine act via different mechanisms and may have dissociable effects on thyroid hormones. Following treatment with haloperidol, significant changes in T4, but not in T3, serum levels were observed. Haloperidol and clozapine had different effects on the thyroid hormone levels. These results indicate that antipsychotic treatment can contribute to the thyroid dysfunction. Therefore, greater caution should be applied to the antipsychotics use. The thyroid function of the patients should be closely monitored, while using these drugs.
  • Iodine levels in different regions of the human brain. [Journal Article]
    J Trace Elem Med Biol. 2020 Jun 08; 62:126579.Pinto E, Ramos P, … Almeida A
  • CONCLUSIONS: This paper provides important data on iodine levels at different brain regions in "normal" people, which can be used to interpret eventual imbalances in subjects with mental disorders and neurodegenerative diseases.
  • Epidermoid cyst abscess of the neck masquerading as a thyroid abscess. [Journal Article]
    Endocrinol Diabetes Metab Case Rep. 2020 Jun 04; 2020Chatchomchaun W, Thewjitcharoen Y, … Himathongkam T
  • In this case report, we describe a 37-year-old male who presented with fever and tender neck mass. Neck ultrasonography revealed a mixed echogenic multiloculated solid-cystic lesion containing turbid fluid and occupying the right thyroid region. Thyroid function tests showed subclinical hyperthyroidism. The patient was initially diagnosed with thyroid abscess and he was subsequently treated with …
  • Hormonal Contribution to Liver Regeneration. [Review]
Mayo Clin Proc Innov Qual Outcomes. 2020 Jun; 4(3):315-338.Abu Rmilah AA, Zhou W, Nyberg SL
  • An understanding of the molecular basis of liver regeneration will open new horizons for the development of novel therapies for chronic liver failure. Such therapies would solve the drawbacks associated with liver transplant, including the shortage of donor organs, long waitlist time, high medical costs, and lifelong use of immunosuppressive agents. Regeneration after partial hepatectomy has been…
  • A Feedforward Loop within the Thyroid-Brown Fat Axis Facilitates Thermoregulation. [Journal Article]
    Sci Rep. 2020 Jun 15; 10(1):9661.Sun L, Goh HJ, … Leow MK
  • Thyroid hormones (TH) control brown adipose tissue (BAT) activation and differentiation, but their subsequent homeostatic response following BAT activation remains obscure. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between cold- and capsinoids-induced BAT activation and TH changes between baseline and 2 hours post-intervention. Nineteen healthy subjects underwent 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose pos…
