  • Integrative analysis and in vitro assessment of the effects of α-mangostin on high-glucose-induced inflammatory and oxidative stress responses in RAW264.7 macrophages. [Journal Article]
BMC Complement Med Ther. 2026 Jul 20. [Online ahead of print]Cao P, Wang Y, … Lyu GBC
  • CONCLUSIONS: α-MG attenuated high-glucose-induced inflammatory and oxidative responses in RAW264.7 macrophages. The integrative computational analysis suggested that computationally predicted TNF- and IL-17-related pathways may be involved, whereas the in vitro experiments provided supportive evidence only for changes in inflammatory cytokines, PTGS2/COX-2, oxidative stress markers, and NF-κB activation. These findings provide preliminary experimental and computational evidence for the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant potential of α-MG under diabetic-like macrophage inflammatory conditions. However, direct pathway-specific validation and functional diabetic wound-related models are required before drawing conclusions regarding TNF/IL-17 pathway regulation or therapeutic efficacy in diabetic wound healing.
  • Anti-Hyperglycemic Effects of Alpha-Mangostin in Animal Models: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis. [Review]
    Life (Basel). 2026 May 28; 16(6).Chatatikun M, Kawakami F, … Phongphithakchai AL
  • Diabetes mellitus, particularly type 2 diabetes mellitus, is a growing global health burden characterized by chronic hyperglycemia and insulin resistance. Alpha-mangostin (AM), a xanthone from Garcinia mangostana pericarp, exhibits antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and metabolic regulatory properties in preclinical models. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of controlled in vivo stu…
  • Efficacy of Acid-Treated Mangosteen Peel as a Broad-Spectrum Mycotoxin Binder. [Journal Article]
    Toxins (Basel). 2026 May 02; 18(5).Kasikonsunthonchai W, Adunphatcharaphon S, … Petchkongkaew AT
  • Multiple mycotoxins in feed threaten animal health and food safety, demanding sustainable mitigation strategies. This study evaluated acid-modified mangosteen peel (AMP), an agricultural by-product, as a potential multi-mycotoxin adsorbent. Physicochemical characterization using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area analysis, and Fourier transform infrared …
  • Antibacterial activity and mechanism of mangosteen extract garcinone D against Bacillus cereus. [Journal Article]
Int J Food Microbiol. 2026 Aug 02; 457:111844.Lei YY, Zhou GQ, … Liu YQIJ
  • This study systematically investigated the antibacterial activity and underlying mechanism of garcinone D, a xanthone isolated and purified from mangosteen, against B. cereus. The results demonstrated that garcinone D exhibited significant inhibitory activity, with a MIC90 of 3.12 μg/mL, which is markedly lower than that of the commercial preservative ε-polylysine (MIC90 = 25 μg/mL). Furthermore,…
  • Mapping the Polar Neuro-Interactome of Garcinia mangostana Against the AD-PD-ALS Nexus. [Journal Article]
    Life (Basel). 2026 Apr 01; 16(4).Hossain R, Surinkaew S, … Tangpong JL
  • Background/Objectives: Neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) share common molecular pathways, including neuroinflammation and oxidative stress, which complicate the effectiveness of single-target treatments. Garcinia mangostana L. (mangosteen) has shown neuroprotective properties, but previous studies focused on lipophilic xanthones, whi…
