  • Motor Disorders and Related Conditions in Neuropsychiatry. [Review]
Psychiatr Clin North Am. 2026 Dec; 49(4):739-757.Cavanna AEPC
  • The assessment of patients with neuropsychiatric conditions follows the time-honored principles of general clinical practice and requires considerable expertise, as well as a good deal of patience and persistence. As part of the mental state examination, the motor system must be systematically addressed, alongside other physical signs of neuropsychiatric relevance. Direct observation of the patie…
  • Beyond Face Value: The Clinical Significance of Facial Morphology and Expression in Neuropsychiatry. [Review]
Psychiatr Clin North Am. 2026 Dec; 49(4):545-565.Fontenelle LFPC
  • The clinical assessment of the facial structure and its expression remain a valuable, yet often underutilized, component of neuropsychiatric evaluation. Drawing on traditions spanning from internal medicine to contemporary cognitive neuroscience, careful observation of the face can yield insights into underlying psychological, neurologic, and genetic processes. • Is psychomotor retardation a sixth domain of negative symptoms? [Journal Article]
    Schizophr Res. 2026 Oct 22; 298:254-260. [Online ahead of print]Kirkpatrick B, Cohen AS, … Fernandez-Egea ESR
  • CONCLUSIONS: PMR showed associations with negative symptoms, cognitive impairment, and functional outcome, consistent with status as a sixth negative symptom domain. However, other findings leave unclear whether it should be considered a negative symptom, a motor symptom, or something more complex. Problems in the G7 item definition and description contribute to this uncertainty.
  • Reattach-Informed Integrated Occupational Therapy In Persistent Post-Concussion Syndrome: A Pilot Case Series. [Journal Article]
Clin Neuropsychiatry. 2026 Oct; 23(5):389-393.Reitsma S, Mehrad ACN
  • CONCLUSIONS: These preliminary findings suggest that a ReAttach-informed occupational therapy protocol may be associated with substantial within-participant improvements in persistent PCS. Given the small, uncontrolled sample, the results are exploratory and require confirmation in larger controlled trials. Interpretations regarding autonomic regulation and predictive processing are offered as possible frameworks rather than demonstrated mechanisms, and any cost-related advantages are discussed as potential rather than established.
  • Mental Health Functioning Among Transgender and Nonbinary Adults:Evidence from an Italian Comparative Study. [Journal Article]
    Clin Neuropsychiatry. 2026 Oct; 23(5):401-408.Romano L, Tomasini E, … Truzoli RCN
  • CONCLUSIONS: TGNB adults exhibited greater psychological distress than cisgender participants, with younger gender-diverse adults showing greater vulnerability. Sexual orientation showed a stronger association with lower RFLI than gender modality, suggesting that protective cognitions may reflect intersecting minority identities. These findings support developmentally informed and minority stress-sensitive mental health strategies targeting both symptom burden and protective psychological resources.
