  • Comparison of biofilm formation and efflux pumps in ESBL and carbapenemase producing Klebsiella pneumoniae. [Journal Article]
    J Infect Dev Ctries 2018; 12(3):156-163Yazgan B, Türkel I, … Yıldırım T
  • CONCLUSIONS: Under the conditions used here ESBL-producing isolates formed more biofilm than KPC postive isolates; this was associated with virulence determinants which were also transferred by plasmids together with ESBLs enzymes. Moreover, the upregulation of acrA, kdeA, ketM, and kpnEF efflux pumps was seen in carbapenemase-producing isolates demonstrating that high expression of efflux pumps alone could not confer resistance but may act as a physiological determinant such as bacterial pathogenicity and virulence, and cell-to-cell communication for bacteria.
  • [Clinical characteristics and drug susceptibility test of nontuberculous mycobacterial lung disease]. [Journal Article]
Zhonghua Jie He He Hu Xi Za Zhi 2019; 42(12):901-906Lou H, Sun Q, … Sha W
  • CONCLUSIONS: There were differences in the clinical manifestations and imaging features of 4 common NMLD diseases, which were helpful for clinical differentiation. The patients with M. Kansasii infection were mainly male, with a high IGRA positive rate and fewer lesions of bronchiectasis or pleural changes. Most of the patients with M. Abscess were female, with a previous history of bronchiectasis, and with most of the lesions showing tree-in-bud signs. The NTM species had a high rate of resistance to anti-TB drugs except M. Kansasii.
  • A Tanshinone IIA Loaded Hybrid Nanocomposite with Enhanced Therapeutic Effect for Otitis Media. [Journal Article]
    Int J Pharm 2019; :118846Yu H, Zeng P, … Chen G
  • Otitis media, commonly known as middle ear inflammation, is among one of the most common maladies and results in significant morbidity such as loss of hearing. In view of the bacteria invasion such as Staphylococcus aureus causes the majority forms of otitis media, drug treatment generally uses antibacterial by topical or systematic approach. However, the effectiveness of antibacterial is diminis…
  • Evaluation of the trends and appropriateness of fluoroquinolone use in the outpatient treatment of acute uncomplicated cystitis at five family practice clinics. [Journal Article]
J Clin Pharm Ther 2019Robinson TF, Barsoumian AE, … Giancola SE
  • CONCLUSIONS: A total of 677 patient encounters were screened for inclusion. Of those, 567 met the inclusion criteria: 395 nitrofurantoin and 172 FQs. Treatment was considered appropriate in 86.8% and 10.5% of cases that were prescribed nitrofurantoin and FQs, respectively (P < .01). There were four independent predictors of FQ use identified by multivariate logistical regression: clinic at which the patient was treated, age, nitrofurantoin use within 90 days prior to encounter and previous urine culture within one year with an organism non-susceptible to nitrofurantoin.Despite recommendations against FQs for uncomplicated cystitis, they continue to be widely prescribed, and their use for this indication is often inappropriate. This highlights the need for additional interventions and education to improve use and preserve the utility of FQs.
