  • Transvenous embolization of a ruptured AVM. [Case Reports]
    World Neurosurg. 2020 Jun 27 [Online ahead of print]Matanov S, Sirakov A, … Sirakov S
  • Transvenous embolization is not so widely used technique for treatment of arteriovenous malformations (1,2). However, in the reported cases and series in the literature it is proven to be safe and efficient method that can lead to total occlusion of the formation in one procedure (2-6). The transvenous approach is reserved for small, deeply localized formations with single draining vein (2-4). In…
  • Embolic agents and microcatheters for endovascular treatment of cerebral arteriovenous malformations. [Review]
    World Neurosurg. 2020 Jun 24 [Online ahead of print]Triano MJ, Lara-Reyna J, … Yaeger K
  • Endovascular embolization of cerebral arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) originally entailed delivery of n-butyl cyanoacrylate glue (nBCA) to the nidus via a flow-directed microcatheter. Within the past decade, several new liquid embolic agents and novel microcatheter technologies have come to market that have improved the ease of use and efficacy of endovascular therapies for AVMs. Non-adhesive …
  • Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection Treated with Direct Coronary Stenting. [Journal Article]
    Am J Case Rep. 2020 May 23; 21:e922587.Oladiran O, Oladunjoye OO, … Licata A
  • CONCLUSIONS: Spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) is a rare condition that can present with ECG changes and ischemic symptoms identical to ST-elevation transmural myocardial infarction secondary to plaque rupture. Coronary angiography is required to evaluate patients, and, depending on the catheterization findings, the patient's hemodynamic profile, and severity of ischemic symptoms, complex interventions such as direct coronary stenting can best treat patients such as ours, while medical management might be considered for others.
  • Endovascular treatment of the cavernous sinus dural arteriovenous fistula: current status and considerations. [Review]
    Int J Med Sci. 2020; 17(8):1121-1130.Hou K, Li G, … Yu J
  • A cavernous sinus dural arteriovenous fistula (CS-DAVF) is an abnormal arteriovenous communication involving the dura mater within or near the CS wall. The dural arteries from the internal carotid artery and external carotid artery supply the CS-DAVF, and the superior ophthalmic vein (SOV) and inferior petrous sinus (IPS) are frequent venous drainers. In CS-DAVF cases, high-risk lesions require t…
  • Review of precision cancer medicine: Evolution of the treatment paradigm. [Review]
    Cancer Treat Rev. 2020 Jun; 86:102019.Tsimberidou AM, Fountzilas E, … Kurzrock R
  • In recent years, biotechnological breakthroughs have led to identification of complex and unique biologic features associated with carcinogenesis. Tumor and cell-free DNA profiling, immune markers, and proteomic and RNA analyses are used to identify these characteristics for optimization of anticancer therapy in individual patients. Consequently, clinical trials have evolved, shifting from tumor …
  • Preoperative embolization versus no embolization for WHO grade I intracranial meningioma: a retrospective matched cohort study. [Journal Article]
    J Neurosurg. 2020 Mar 27 [Online ahead of print]Przybylowski CJ, Zhao X, … Nakaji P
  • CONCLUSIONS: After controlling for patient age, tumor size, tumor laterality, tumor location, tumor invasion into a major dural sinus, and tumor encasement of the internal carotid artery or middle cerebral artery, preoperative meningioma embolization intended to decrease tumor vascularity did not improve the surgical outcomes of patients with WHO grade I intracranial meningiomas, but it did lead to a greater chance of clinical improvement compared to patients not treated with embolization.
  • Outcomes of Onyx® Embolization of Type II Endoleaks After Endovascular Repair of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms. [Journal Article]
Ann Vasc Surg. 2020 Mar 13 [Online ahead of print]Mozes GD, Pather K, … DeMartino RR
  • CONCLUSIONS: Onyx for embolization of T2ELs resulted in AAA sac diameter stabilization or reduction in 66% of patients, and up to 72% in isolated T2ELs. Further, increasing Onyx interventions were not associated with either aneurysm sac stabilization or reduction. Given its similar outcomes to other embolization strategies in the literature, Onyx embolization for management of T2ELs needs to be judiciously considered, particularly for T2ELs persisting after an initial Onyx embolization intervention.
  • Endovascular Embolization of a Lateral Sacral Fistula: 2-Dimensional Operative Video. [Journal Article]
Oper Neurosurg (Hagerstown). 2020 Mar 14 [Online ahead of print]Rahme RJ, Abi-Aad KR, … Bendok BR
  • Spinal dural arteriovenous fistulas are the most common vascular malformations of the spine. They are localized in the sacral spine in 5% to 14% of the cases. They can be fed by the median or the lateral sacral arteries. These lesions present with nonspecific symptoms such as radiculopathy and/or myelopathy, which often leads to a delay in diagnosis. In this video, we present the case of a 65-yr-…
