  • Features of dermatofibroma in reflectance confocal microscopy. [Journal Article]
    Int J Dermatol. 2020 Jun 04 [Online ahead of print]Pogorzelska-Antkowiak A, Wcisło-Dziadecka D, … Corneli P
  • CONCLUSIONS: Reflectance confocal microscopy enables us to describe microscopic features of DF. There are four confocal microscopic features observable in each DF: in the epidermis, normal honeycombed pattern, sometimes with local streaming, in DEJ, edged papillae, bright rings, and dilated vessels.
  • Sutton Naevi as Melanoma Simulators: Can Confocal Microscopy Help in the Diagnosis? [Journal Article]
    Acta Derm Venereol. 2020 May 11; 100(10):adv00134.Brugués A, Ribero S, … Carrera C
  • Sutton naevi can sometimes present a challenging appearance with atypical presentation, also by dermoscopy. Reflectance confocal microscopy could help in making a diagnosis. This study prospectively collected two groups of Sutton nevi: the first one was composed by typical white halo naevi monitored for one year (13, 23%) and the second one was made up of atypical lesions excised in order to rule …
  • Superficial sarcomas with CIC rearrangement are aggressive neoplasms: A series of eight cases. [Journal Article]
    J Cutan Pathol. 2020 Jun; 47(6):509-516.Ko JS, Marusic Z, … Billings SD
  • CIC rearranged sarcomas have significant overlap with Ewing sarcoma, are aggressive, and typically present in deep soft tissue. They most commonly have a t(4;19)(q35;q13) with CIC-DUX4 fusion. Superficial presentation is rare. We report eight (6F, 2M; median 45-years-old, range 14-65) superficial CIC-rearranged sarcomas, involving the extremities (n = 4), vulva (n = 2), and trunk (n = 2). The tum…
  • Pagetoid reticulosis in a 13-year old female. A unique immunohistochemical profile. [Case Reports]
    J Cutan Pathol. 2020 May; 47(5):466-469.Torre-Castro J, Carrasco Santos L, … Requena L
  • Pagetoid reticulosis (PR) is a rare lymphoproliferative disorder with indolent behavior considered a variant of mycosis fungoides. It is characterized by marked epidermotropism of the neoplastic lymphocytes. Since its original description, five cases have been reported in children. We report a new case of PR with an immunohistochemical profile not previously described in children.
  • Keratinocyte cadherin desmoglein 1 controls melanocyte behavior through paracrine signaling. [Journal Article]
Pigment Cell Melanoma Res. 2020 03; 33(2):305-317.Arnette CR, Roth-Carter QR, … Green KJ
  • The epidermis is the first line of defense against ultraviolet (UV) light from the sun. Keratinocytes and melanocytes respond to UV exposure by eliciting a tanning response dependent in part on paracrine signaling, but how keratinocyte:melanocyte communication is regulated during this response remains understudied. Here, we uncover a surprising new function for the keratinocyte-specific cell-cell…
  • Polypoid Compound Melanocytic Proliferations: A Clinicopathological Study. [Journal Article]
Am J Dermatopathol. 2019 Aug; 41(8):578-584.Mesbah Ardakani N, Harvey NT, Wood BA
  • Nevi can show a polypoid appearance both clinically and histologically. Anecdotally, polypoid compound melanocytic nevus may exhibit a spectrum of junctional architectural and cytologic atypia, at times creating a diagnostic challenge by mimicking the radial growth phase of melanoma. To investigate this issue, we prospectively reviewed 40 polypoid compound melanocytic proliferations without overt…
  • Perianal Goblet Cell Carcinoid With Pagetoid Spread. [Case Reports]
Int J Surg Pathol. 2019 Oct; 27(7):788-791.Grunes D, Kim MK, … Ward SC
  • We present a case of perianal goblet cell carcinoid with pagetoid spread. Goblet cell carcinoid, also known as adenocarcinoid tumor, predominantly arises as a primary appendiceal tumor and contains nests of neuroendocrine and mucin-containing cells. When this tumor type is seen in other sites it usually represents a metastasis. We present the case of an 81-year-old woman with a perianal mass. His…
  • Dermoscopy of pagetoid reticulosis, with dermoscopic-pathologic correlation. [Case Reports]
    Photodermatol Photoimmunol Photomed. 2019 Sep; 35(5):372-374.Manoli SM, Lallas A, … Apalla Z
  • Pagetoid reticulosis (PR), also known as Woringer-Kolopp disease, is a rare variant of mycosis fungoides with distinctive clinicopathologic features. It clinically manifests as a solitary, erythematous, gradually enlarging, scaly, or verrucous plaque on the lower extremities, and due to its indolent course and nonspecific clinical features, may remain undiagnosed for years. In the current study, …
  • Pagetoid reticulosis positive for cytotoxic CD20 and CD30: A case report. [Case Reports]
    Indian J Pathol Microbiol. 2019 Apr-Jun; 62(2):316-318.Wei S, Huang W, Xu X
  • Pagetoid reticulosis is an indolent cutaneous T-cell lymphoma and presents as erythema or plaque with a well-defined border on the distal areas of the extremities. Immunophenotypic studies show that in most cases, neoplastic lymphocytes are positive for CD4, whereas CD20 and CD30 double positivity was rarely reported. In this paper, we report an 80-year-old woman who presented with erythema on th…
