  • Early imaging signs of the use of antiresorptive medication and MRONJ: a systematic review. [Review]
    Clin Oral Investig. 2020 Jul 06 [Online ahead of print]Moreno-Rabié C, Gaêta-Araujo H, … Jacobs R
  • CONCLUSIONS: The main limitations of these results are the lack of prospective data and comparisons groups; therefore, careful interpretation should be made. It is a fact that radiographic findings are present in antiresorptive-treated patients, but the precise timepoint of occurrence, their relation to the posology, and potential risk to develop MRONJ are not clear. The importance of a baseline radiographic diagnosis for antiresorptive-treated patients.
  • [Progress on clinical application of orthodontic-implant combined therapy]. [Journal Article]
Zhejiang Da Xue Xue Bao Yi Xue Ban. 2020 May 25; 49(1):124-130.Wang S, Gu X
  • For complex implant cases, simple implantation could not achieve the desired therapeutic effect, and a multidisciplinary approach has become a general trend. Orthodontic treatment before implantation creates favorable conditions for subsequent implantation by increasing restoring three-dimensional space, improving occlusion of patients. It also stimulates the increase of autologous soft and hard …
  • Challenges of Engineering Biomimetic Dental and Paradental Tissues. [Review]
Tissue Eng Regen Med. 2020 Jul 03 [Online ahead of print]Grawish ME, Grawish LM, … El-Negoly SA
  • CONCLUSIONS: Engineering of BioTooth with its supporting structures thought to be in the future will replace the traditional and conventional treatment modalities in the field of dentistry. To accomplish this goal, different cell lines and growth factors with a variety of scaffolds at the nano-scale level are now in use. Recent researches in this area of interest are dedicated for this objective, both in vivo and in vitro. Despite progress in this field, there are still many challenges ahead and need to be overcome, many of which related to the basic tooth biology and its supporting structures and some others related to the sophisticated techniques isolating cells, fabricating the needed scaffolds and obtaining the signaling molecules.
  • Revealing emerging science and technology research for dentistry applications of 3D bioprinting. [Review]
    Int J Bioprint. 2019; 5(1):170.Rodriguez-Salvador M, Ruiz-Cantu L
  • Science and technology (S&T) on three-dimensional (3D) bioprinting is growing at an increasingly accelerated pace; one major challenge represents how to develop new solutions for frequent oral diseases such as periodontal problems and loss of alveolar bone. 3D bioprinting is expected to revolutionize the health industry in the upcoming years. In dentistry, this technology can become a significant…
  • Erythromycin inhibits neutrophilic inflammation and mucosal disease by upregulating DEL-1. [Journal Article]
    JCI Insight. 2020 Jun 30 [Online ahead of print]Maekawa T, Tamura H, … Hajishengallis G
  • Macrolide antibiotics exert anti-inflammatory effects; however, little is known regarding their immunomodulatory mechanisms. In this study, using two distinct mouse models of mucosal inflammatory disease (LPS-induced acute lung injury and ligature-induced periodontitis), we demonstrated that the anti-inflammatory action of erythromycin (ERM) is mediated through upregulation of the secreted homeos…
  • Estrogen protects dental roots from orthodontic-induced inflammatory resorption. [Journal Article]
Arch Oral Biol. 2020 Jun 18; 117:104820.Amaro ERS, Ortiz FR, … Macari S
  • CONCLUSIONS: The lack of estrogen in Balb mice without OTM triggered loss of root structure which was positively correlated to RANKL/OPG ratio. Regardless of mouse strain, the absence of estrogen following OTM induced OIIRR. Mechanisms involve the imbalance of RANKL/OPG system, inflammatory and osteoclastic makers.
  • Role of PTH1R Signaling in Prx1+ Mesenchymal Progenitors during Eruption. [Journal Article]
    J Dent Res. 2020 Jun 25 [Online ahead of print]Cui C, Bi R, … Fan Y
  • Tooth eruption is a complex process requiring precise interaction between teeth and adjacent tissues. Molecular analysis demonstrates that bone remodeling plays an essential role during eruption, suggesting that a parathyroid hormone 1 receptor (PTH1R) gene mutation is associated with disturbances in bone remodeling and results in primary failure of eruption (PFE). Recent research reveals the fun…
  • Gingival Crevicular Blood Glucose Levels: Is it a Reliable Tool for Screening Diabetes in a Dental Office? [Journal Article]
    J Contemp Dent Pract. 2020 Apr 01; 21(4):421-425.Sande AR, Guru S, … Siddeshappa ST
  • CONCLUSIONS: Gingival crevicular blood collected during diagnostic periodontal examination can provide a valid and acceptable source for measuring blood glucose levels using a glucometer. In addition, the technique described is quick, safe, easy to perform and more acceptable to the patients.Dental surgeon can play an active role in screening of patients for glucose levels during routine periodontal examination and help to increase the frequency of diabetes screening in dental offices especially in undiagnosed diabetic cases which can be referred to the physician for appropriate management of the condition.
  • Prosthetic Rehabilitation of a Patient Diagnosed With Sarcoidosis Using Dental Implants: A Clinical Case Report. [Case Reports]
    J Oral Implantol. 2020 Jun 01; 46(3):235-243.James M, Matani J, Shahdad S
  • No previously published studies have reported on the placement and restoration of dental implants in a patient diagnosed with sarcoidosis. Patients with sarcoidosis may develop periodontitis as a manifestation of systemic disease and are therefore at increased risk of tooth loss. These patients are likely to want fixed dental prostheses, which may need to be supported by dental implants. The case…
  • Effect of titanium or zirconia implant abutments on epithelial attachments after ultrasonic cleaning. [Journal Article]
    J Oral Sci. 2020; 62(3):331-334.Hu J, Atsuta I, … Koyano K
  • Zirconia is widely employed as a material during dental implant work because of its superior esthetics. This study sought to evaluate the impact of titanium or zirconia implant abutments on epithelial attachments after ultrasonic cleaning. These implants were inserted into the extraction socket of rat maxillary first molars. Then, the length of the horseradish peroxidase (HRP) reaction was measur…
  • Active gingival inflammation is linked to hypertension. [Journal Article]
    J Hypertens. 2020 Jun 22 [Online ahead of print]Pietropaoli D, Monaco A, … Del Pinto R
  • CONCLUSIONS: Gingival bleeding contributes to shaping the relationship between periodontal diseases and BP, but the burden represented by periodontitis is also crucial. Periodontal evaluation might be of importance in difficult to control hypertension.
  • Cytokines and Chemokines in Periodontitis. [Journal Article]
    Eur J Dent. 2020 Jun 23 [Online ahead of print]Ramadan DE, Hariyani N, … Diyatri I
  • Periodontitis is a common inflammatory periodontal disease affecting a wide range of population all over the world. The causing bacteria releases chemicals which activate the innate immune system to release proinflammatory cytokines contributing to more progression. This activates the acquired immune system leading to more progression of periodontitis. As the immune response goes on, released cyto…
