  • Remodeling of macular vortex veins in pachychoroid neovasculopathy. [Journal Article]
    Sci Rep 2019; 9(1):14689Matsumoto H, Kishi S, … Akiyama H
  • Superior and inferior macular vortex veins are divided by a horizontal watershed passing through the macula. We evaluated macular vortex vein remodeling in eyes with pachychoroid neovasculopathy (PNV). Thirty eyes of 30 patients with treatment-naïve PNV and 30 normal eyes of 30 age-, gender-, and refraction-matched subjects were studied. We assessed the features of macular vortex veins employing …
  • Comparative Analysis of LASIK Flap Diameter and its Centration Using Two Different Femtosecond Lasers. [Journal Article]
Med Hypothesis Discov Innov Ophthalmol 2019; 8(3):241-249Moshirfar M, Brown TW, … Hoopes PC
  • The aim of this study was to compare the diameter, accuracy, variability, and centration with respect to the limbus of corneal flaps created by two femtosecond lasers, the VisuMax, and Wavelight FS200, for laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) and how these flaps affect visual outcomes. This is a retrospective chart review of flap morphology created during LASIK Surgery. Overall, 168 eyes underwen…
  • Visual Prognosis after Explantation of Small-Aperture Corneal Inlays in Presbyopic Eyes: A Case Series. [Journal Article]
Med Hypothesis Discov Innov Ophthalmol 2019; 8(3):129-133Moshirfar M, Skanchy DF, … Hoopes PCJ
  • The purpose of this study was to report visual prognosis after explantation of a small-aperture corneal inlay used for the treatment of presbyopia. This is a retrospective case series conducted at a single site in Draper, Utah, USA (Hoopes Vision). Medical records of 176 patients who had received a small-aperture corneal inlay (KAMRA™, AcuFocus Inc., Irvine, CA, USA) were reviewed. Patients who h…
  • Case Series: Slight Intraocular Lens Malpositioning as a Potential Cause of Vision Loss. [Journal Article]
    Optom Vis Sci 2019; 96(10):802-807Rong X, Miao A, … Zhu X
  • CONCLUSIONS: The cases illustrate an insidious cause of decreased visual acuity after cataract surgery.Inconspicuous IOL malpositioning is one of the reasons responsible for decreased vision acuity after cataract surgery, which may not be easily identified by slit-lamp examination. High astigmatism and ocular higher-order aberrations derived from malpositioned IOL can be important clues.
  • Validation of an Affordable Handheld Wavefront Autorefractor. [Journal Article]
    Optom Vis Sci 2019; 96(10):726-732Rubio M, Hernández CS, … Lage E
  • CONCLUSIONS: There is a critical need for tools that increase the accessibility of eye care to address the most common cause of vision impairment: uncorrected refractive errors. This work assesses the performance of an affordable autorefractor, which could help reduce the burden of this health care problem in low-resource communities. This study found excellent agreement between the measurements obtained with the portable autorefractor and the prescriptions based on SR and only small differences between the VA achieved by either method.
  • Normal mode dispersion and time warping in the coastal ocean. [Journal Article]
J Acoust Soc Am 2019; 146(3):EL205Godin OA, Katsnelson BG, Tan TW
  • Simple, analytically solvable models of normal mode propagation in the coastal ocean are developed and applied to study the effect of the seafloor bathymetry on modal travel times. Within the adiabatic approximation, horizontal inhomogeneity of the waveguide is found to change the modal dispersion curves in a way that helps separation of the modal components of the acoustic field using the time-w…
