  • Multiple Patterns of Axonal Collateralization of Single Layer III Neurons of the Rat Presubiculum. [Journal Article]
    Front Neural Circuits 2019; 13:45Honda Y, Furuta T
  • The presubiculum plays a key role in processing and integrating spatial and head-directional information. Layer III neurons of the presubiculum provide strong projections to the superficial layers of the medial entorhinal cortex (MEC) in the rat. Our previous study revealed that the terminal distribution of efferents from layer III cells of the presubiculum was organized in a band-like fashion wi…
  • Distinct Patterns of Hippocampal and Neocortical Evolution in Primates. [Journal Article]
Brain Behav Evol 2019; :1-11Vanier DR, Sherwood CC, Smaers JB
  • Because of the central role of the hippocampus in representing spatial and temporal details of experience, comparative studies of its volume and structure are relevant to understanding the evolution of representational memory across species. The hippocampal formation, however, is organized into separate anatomical subregions with distinct functions, and little is known about the evolutionary dive…
  • Effects of surgical targeting in laser interstitial thermal therapy for mesial temporal lobe epilepsy: A multicenter study of 234 patients. [Journal Article]
    Epilepsia 2019; 60(6):1171-1183Wu C, Jermakowicz WJ, … D'Haese PF
  • CONCLUSIONS: LITT is a viable treatment for mTLE in patients who have been properly evaluated at a comprehensive epilepsy center. Consideration of surgical factors is imperative to the complete assessment of LITT. Based on our model, ablations must prioritize the amygdala and also include the hippocampal head, parahippocampal gyrus, and rhinal cortices to maximize chances of seizure freedom. Extending the ablation posteriorly has diminishing returns. Further work is necessary to refine this analysis and define the minimal zone of ablation necessary for seizure control.
  • The Organization and Connections of Second Somatosensory Cortex in the Agouti. [Journal Article]
Front Neuroanat 2018; 12:118Santiago LF, Freire MAM, … Pereira A
  • In order to understand how the mammalian sensory cortex has been structured during evolution, it is necessary to compare data from different species across distinct mammalian lineages. Here, we investigated the organization of the secondary somatosensory area (S2) in the agouti (Dasyprocta aguti), a medium-sized Amazonian rodent, using microelectrode mapping techniques and neurotracer injections.…
