  • Tibial tray rotation and posterior slope increase risk for outliers in coronal alignment. [Journal Article]
    Bone Joint J. 2020 Jun; 102-B(6_Supple_A):43-48.D'Lima DP, Huang P, … D'Lima DD
  • CONCLUSIONS: While the effect of axial malalignment has been studied, the impact on coronal alignment is not known. Our results indicate that the direction of the cutting guide and malalignment in axial rotation alter coronal plane alignment and can increase the incidence of outliers. Cite this article: Bone Joint J 2020;102-B(6 Supple A):43-48.
  • Strategies for superior thyroid pole dissection in transoral thyroidectomy: a video operative guide. [Journal Article]
    Surg Endosc. 2020 May 07 [Online ahead of print]Zhang D, Wang T, … Sun H
  • CONCLUSIONS: Access to the superior thyroid pole space through the TOETVA approach presents some challenges, particularly when accessing thyroid vessels or nodules located or displaced more cranially. Strategies that enhance a critical view of the superior thyroid gland structures can protect them from damage and have the potential to improve the safety of the TOETVA and decrease potential conversion rates.
  • Nerve-sparing radical hysterectomy in the precision surgery for cervical cancer. [Review]
    J Gynecol Oncol. 2020 May; 31(3):e49.Sakuragi N, Murakami G, … Watari H
  • Precision cancer surgery is a system that integrates the accurate evaluation of tumor extension and aggressiveness, precise surgical maneuvers, prognosis evaluation, and prevention of the deterioration of quality of life (QoL). In this regard, nerve-sparing radical hysterectomy has a pivotal role in the personalized treatment of cervical cancer. Various types of radical hysterectomy can be combin…
  • Distal esophageal spasm: Update on diagnosis and management in the era of high-resolution manometry. [Review]
    World J Clin Cases. 2020 Mar 26; 8(6):1026-1032.Gorti H, Samo S, … Qayed E
  • Distal esophageal spasm (DES) is a rare major motility disorder in the Chicago classification of esophageal motility disorders (CC). DES is diagnosed by finding of ≥ 20% premature contractions, with normal lower esophageal sphincter (LES) relaxation on high-resolution manometry (HRM) in the latest version of CCv3.0. This feature differentiates it from achalasia type 3, which has an elevated LES r…
  • Custom-Made Three-Dimensional Models for Craniosynostosis. [Journal Article]
    J Craniofac Surg. 2020 Jan/Feb; 31(1):292-293.Bowen L, Benech R, … Campbell DF
  • The use of computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing in oral and maxillofacial surgery is an ever-growing field. The availability of 3D models, cutting guides, and customised surgical instruments gives surgeons the opportunity to modify and improve their surgical procedures. Here, we discuss the use of computer-aided design-computer-aided manufacturing to improve the management of a ca…
  • In Vitro and Ex Vivo Evaluation of a Novel Guided Drill System for Bone-Anchored Hearing Implants. [Journal Article]
    Int J Oral Maxillofac Implants. 2019 Nov/Dec; 34(6):e85-e98.Johansson ML, Eriksson T, Omar O
  • CONCLUSIONS: Provided the clinically recommended drilling procedure was adhered to, the absolute temperatures using either a conventional drill system or a guided drill system were below the threshold for thermally induced tissue damage. This study suggests that the guided MIPS system conveys a promising design for an efficient and still-safe osteotomy site preparation for BAHS placement.
  • A modified method for a customized harvest of fibula free flap in maxillofacial reconstruction. [Journal Article]
    J Stomatol Oral Maxillofac Surg. 2020 Feb; 121(1):74-76.Druelle C, Schlund M, … Nicot R
  • Mandibular reconstruction using computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing cutting guides is currently a common procedure. However, inaccurate positioning of the cutting guide onto the fibular bone may result in osteosynthesis difficulties or imprecision in the reconstruction. A novel way to improve the stability of the cutting guides may be to add pillars in order for them to be suspende…
  • The use of patient-specific implants in genioplasty and its clinical accuracy: a preliminary study. [Journal Article]
    Int J Oral Maxillofac Surg. 2020 Apr; 49(4):461-465.Li B, Wang S, … Wang X
  • The purpose of this study was to assess the accuracy and clinical validation of patient-specific implants (PSI) in genioplasty. Fifteen patients with chin deformities were enrolled. Virtual planning was performed with the computer-aided surgical simulation method. The three-dimensional-printed titanium cutting guide and patient-specific plate were designed to guide the osteotomy and allow reposit…
  • Ancillary Tests in Breast Cytology: A Practical Guide. [Review]
    Acta Cytol. 2019; 63(4):302-313.Beca F, Schmitt FC
  • Utilization of fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) cytology for the diagnosis of diseases of the breast has been met with both excitement and uncertainty during the last couple of decades. Presently, FNAB for the diagnosis of primary and metastatic breast lesions is on the rise again. This is probably due to its fast turnaround time, cost efficiency, and minimal invasiveness, characteristics of …
  • Preoperative Imaging for Facial Transplant: A Guide for Radiologists. [Case Reports]
    Radiographics. 2019 Jul-Aug; 39(4):1098-1107.Prabhu V, Plana NM, … Rodriguez ED
  • Facial transplant (FT) is a viable option for patients with severe craniomaxillofacial deformities. Transplant imaging requires coordination between radiologists and surgeons and an understanding of the merits and limitations of imaging modalities. Digital subtraction angiography and CT angiography are critical to mapping vascular anatomy, while volume-rendered CT allows evaluation of osseous def…
