  • By failing to prepare, you are preparing your ACL to fail. [Journal Article]
Scand J Med Sci Sports 2019Staynor JM, Alderson JA, … Donnelly CJ
  • There is strong evidence linking an athlete's movement technique during sidestepping with anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury risk. However, it is unclear how these postures are influenced by prior movement. We aim to describe preparatory trunk and thigh kinematics at toe-off of the penultimate-step and flight-phase angular momenta, and explore their associations with frontal-plane risk facto…
  • Mini thigthrope® fixation of unstable bony avulsion of the extensor hallucis longus tendon. [Journal Article]
    Foot (Edinb) 2019; 40:105-108Lopez V, Calvi JP, Slullitel G
  • Reports of isolated avulsion fracture of the distal phalanx of the hallux that comprise the functionality of the extensor hallucis longus tendon (EHL) are scarce and treatment for such injury has only been described in isolated single case reports. Two patients with an unstable avulsion fracture of the distal phalanx treated with reinsertion of the EHL with a Mini ThigthRope® system are presented…
  • Onychoplasty with 1064-nm Laser: Matrixectomy for Treatment of Ingrown Toenails. [Journal Article]
J Am Podiatr Med Assoc 2019; 109(5):401-406Sánchez LC, Zalacaín-Vicuña AJ
  • Onychocryptosis is a common pathology treated by podiatry medical services, and in a considerable percentage, surgical procedures are required to achieve a solution. There are multiple surgical approaches for ingrown toenails, both incisional procedures and nonincisional procedures, such as chemical matrixectomies and physical matrixectomies using carbon dioxide laser. This study presents a surgi…
  • Grade 2 Chondrosarcoma of the Great Toe: An Unusual Location. [Journal Article]
    J Am Podiatr Med Assoc 2019; 109(5):393-396Özmanevra R, Calikoglu E, … Erler K
  • Enchondroma is the most common benign cartilage bone tumor of the toes. In contrast, the foot is a rare region for chondrosarcoma, and the involvement of phalanges is extremely rare. In this article, we report an unusual case of intermediate chondrosarcoma involving the proximal phalanx of the great toe of a 52-year-old woman who was previously treated with curettage and bone grafting because of …
  • Quantitative magnetic resonance imaging and histological hoof wall assessment of 3-year-old Quarter Horses. [Journal Article]
Equine Vet J 2019Pownder SL, Caserto BG, … Koff MF
  • CONCLUSIONS: Variation of qMRI metrics through the depth of the equine hoof wall was found. Although the highly ordered environment of collagen may contribute to T2 values, there was lack of evidence to support proteoglycan content as a major contributor of T1ρ values. It is possible T1ρ values had a greater dependence on total water content as the lowest values were seen in the epidermis. Additional research using qMRI is needed to determine mapping values in different disease states.
