  • To Be Cautious or Not: Tension Pneumothorax After First Tracheostomy Tube Exchange. [Journal Article]
    Indian J Otolaryngol Head Neck Surg 2019; 71(Suppl 1):852-854Luthra A, Chauhan R, … Sahoo AK
  • Tracheostomy tube change is a relatively common procedure once a tracheo-cutaneous tract matures. Regular tracheostomy tube changes prevent the formation of granulation tissue and reduce bacterial colonization (Yaremchuk and Yaremchuk in Laryngoscope 113(1):1-10, 2003). However, serious complications such as subcutaneous emphysema, loss of airway and mediastinitis, can occur if the tube exchange …
  • GeneReviews®: Spinal Muscular Atrophy [BOOK]
University of Washington, Seattle: Seattle (WA)Adam MP, Ardinger HH, … Amemiya APrior TW, Finanger E, … Leach MEBOOK
  • Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is characterized by muscle weakness and atrophy resulting from progressive degeneration and irreversible loss of the anterior horn cells in the spinal cord (i.e., lower motor neurons) and the brain stem nuclei. The onset of weakness ranges from before birth to adulthood. The weakness is symmetric, proximal > distal, and progressive. Before the genetic basis of SMA wa…
  • Treatment of secondary benign airway stenosis after tracheotomy with Montgomery T-tube. [Journal Article]
Math Biosci Eng 2019; 16(6):7839-7849Hu HH, Wu FJ, … Chen E
  • CONCLUSIONS: Montgomery T-tube implantation under rigid bronchoscopy is a safe, feasible and effective tracheal forming method with well tolerance for patients with benign airway stenosis. Secondary benign airway stenosis after tracheal intubation and tracheotomy is an indication of Montgomery T-tube implantation. Compared with the traditional tracheotomy, the advantage of Montgomery T-tube implantation is easy to make the patient phonate, significantly improving the quality of life of patients. T-tube implantation is safe, and the postoperative complications include mucous accumulation and formation of secondary T-tube granulation tissue.
  • Sténose trachéale chez les br슩lés : incidence et facteurs de risque. [Journal Article]
    Ann Burns Fire Disasters 2019; 32(2):122-129Gasri B, Mokline A, … Messadi AA
  • Tracheal stenosis remains frequent, especially in intensive care patients requiring prolonged intubation or tracheotomy. There is little data in the literature regarding this complication in burn patients. The aim of our study was to determine incidence, characteristics and risk factors of tracheal stenosis in burn patients. A retrospective study was conducted in a 20-bed burn ICU in Tunis over 7…
  • Pediatric tracheocutaneous fistula closure following tracheostomy decannulation. [Journal Article]
Int J Pediatr Otorhinolaryngol 2019; 125:122-127Wisniewski BL, Jensen EL, … Baker CD
  • CONCLUSIONS: Approximately 50% of pediatric tracheostomy stoma sites will close spontaneously. Development of a persistent TCF was associated with younger age at placement, longer duration of tracheostomy, and the presence of tracheobronchomalacia. These observations may help clinicians anticipate outcomes following tracheostomy decannulation in children.
