  • Treatment of Acute Lymphoid Leukemia Refractory to Classic First-Line and Rescue Protocols. [Case Reports]
Int J Hematol Oncol Stem Cell Res. 2020 Apr 01; 14(2):123-126.Russo FT, Macedo MCMA, … da Silva RL
  • Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia is a very aggressive malignant disorder of lymphoid cells in adults, with recurrence (30 to 60% of the cases) after the initial treatment. Until this moment, there is no gold standard therapy for the treatment of adult patients with acute relapsed/refractory lymphoblastic leukemia. In this case report, we describe two cases of relapsed leukemia: one of lymphocytic leu…
  • Induced pluripotent stem cell line derived from a sporadic amyotrophic lateral sclerosis patient. [Journal Article]
    Stem Cell Res. 2020 May; 45:101841.Feng B, Ma J, … Cui H
  • Induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) were generated from peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) obtained from a 60-year-old female diagnosed with sporadic amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (sALS). The iPSCs shared the same karyotype with the parent PBMCs, expressed pluripotency stem cell markers, and demonstrated trilineage differentiation potential. This cell line could serve as an ideal model…
  • Isolation and characterisation of nasoseptal cartilage stem/progenitor cells and their role in the chondrogenic niche. [Journal Article]
    Stem Cell Res Ther. 2020 May 14; 11(1):177.Jessop ZM, Al-Sabah A, … Whitaker IS
  • CONCLUSIONS: Fibronectin-adherent CSPCs demonstrate a unique gene expression profile compared to non-fibronectin-adherent DNCs. DNCs cultured in isolation, without CSPCs, express fibroblastic phenotype with reduced chondrogenicity. Mixed populations of stem/progenitor cells and chondrocytes were required for optimal chondrogenesis, suggesting that CSPCs may be required to retain phenotypic stability and chondrogenic potential of DNCs. Crosstalk between DNCs and CSPCs is proposed based on SDF-1 signalling.
  • Hypoxic Wharton's Jelly Stem Cell Conditioned Medium Induces Immunogenic Cell Death in Lymphoma Cells. [Journal Article]
Stem Cells Int. 2020; 2020:4670948.Lin HD, Fong CY, … Bongso A
  • Mesenchymal stem cells from Wharton's jelly of the human umbilical cord (hWJSCs), and the conditioned medium (hWJSC-CM) prepared from them, were shown to be tumoricidal on many cancers. However, these tumoricidal effects were observed in hWJSCs grown under normoxic conditions of 21% oxygen in the laboratory. Since oxygen concentrations in the stem cell niche or physiological microenvironment are …
  • Skeletal Stem Cells for Bone Development and Repair: Diversity Matters. [Review]
    Curr Osteoporos Rep. 2020 Jun; 18(3):189-198.Matsushita Y, Ono W, Ono N
  • Skeletal stem cells (SSCs) are considered to play important roles in bone development and repair. These cells have been historically defined by their in vitro potential for self-renewal and differentiation into "trilineage" cells; however, little is known about their in vivo identity. Here, we discuss recent progress on SSCs and how they potentially contribute to bone development and repair.
  • Combining canine mesenchymal stromal cells and hyaluronic acid for cartilage repair. [Journal Article]
Genet Mol Biol. 2020; 43(1):e20190275.Wits MI, Tobin GC, … Nardi NB
  • Cell therapy and tissue engineering have been intensively researched for repair of articular cartilage. In this study, we investigated the chondrogenic potential of canine adipose-derived mesenchymal stromal cells (ASCs) combined to high molecular weight hyaluronic acid (HA) in vitro, and their therapeutic effect in dogs with chronic osteoarthritis (OA) associated with bilateral hip dysplasia. Ca…
  • Small molecules for mesenchymal stem cell fate determination. [Review]
World J Stem Cells. 2019 Dec 26; 11(12):1084-1103.Cheng YH, Dong JC, Bian Q
  • Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are adult stem cells harboring self-renewal and multilineage differentiation potential that are capable of differentiating into osteoblasts, adipocytes, or chondrocytes in vitro, and regulating the bone marrow microenvironment and adipose tissue remodeling in vivo. The process of fate determination is initiated by signaling molecules that drive MSCs into a specific l…
  • A novel protocol for isolation and culture of multipotent progenitor cells from human urine. [Journal Article]
    J Orthop Translat. 2019 Oct; 19:12-17.Lin W, Xu L, Li G
  • Cell therapy holds promise for treating a variety of diseases. Seeking available source of adult stem cells remains a great challenge in cell therapy. Urine is considered as an ideal source of adult stem cells which can be easily acquired by noninvasive methods. However, specific cell types in urine have not been well documented. Here, the aim of our study is to identify cell types in urine, and …
  • Generation of a homozygous HDAC6 knockout human embryonic stem cell line by CRISPR/Cas9 editing. [Journal Article]
    Stem Cell Res. 2019 12; 41:101610.Xie L, Huang J, … Zhang W
  • Histone deacetylase 6 (HDAC6) is a unique cytoplasmic enzyme in the HDAC family. The HDAC6 has been shown to play important roles in several biological processes. Meanwhile, it is also an attractive therapeutic target for a variety of diseases. However, the mechanism of HDAC6 function is not fully understood yet, and it is still lacking highly specific targeted drugs. Here, we generated a homozyg…
