  • Heat-induced necrosis after bronchial thermoplasty: a new concern? [Case Reports]
    Allergy Asthma Clin Immunol. 2018; 14:25.Menzella F, Lusuardi M, … Facciolongo N
  • Bronchial thermoplasty (BT) is an endoscopic procedure for the treatment of severe refractory asthma, based on the local airways delivery of radio-frequency at 65 °C. Several controlled clinical studies demonstrated the effectiveness of BT on clinical outcomes, particularly the reduction of asthma exacerbations. During procedure or shortly after, significant but transient respiratory adverse even…
  • CT predictors of mortality in pathology confirmed ARDS. [Journal Article]
Eur Radiol. 2011 Apr; 21(4):730-7.Chung JH, Kradin RL, … Digumarthy SR
  • CONCLUSIONS: Our study suggests that >80% of lung involvement, RA/LA ratio >1, and varicoid bronchiectasis predict mortality in patients with ARDS/DAD. Signs of right-sided heart failure (PA dilation greater than 3 cm and RV/LV ratio greater than 0.9) approached significance. CT findings did not differentiate DAD from DAD-OP.
  • Varicoid adenocarcinoma of the esophagus: case report. [Case Reports]
    Dysphagia. 2008 Jun; 23(2):205-7.Kant P, Sahay P
  • Varicoid swellings resemble a varix, or an enlarged and convoluted vessel. Varicoid or superficial spreading carcinoma of the esophagus is a rare condition demonstrating an appearance similar to esophageal varices and as such can be misdiagnosed. In the majority of cases they tend to be squamous cell carcinomas. We present only the second reported case of a patient with varicoid adenocarcinoma of…
  • Distribution and severity of bronchiectasis in allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA). [Journal Article]
J Asthma. 2000 Feb; 37(1):65-72.Mitchell TA, Hamilos DL, … Newell JD
  • The purpose of this paper was to quantitate the distribution and severity of computed tomography (CT) and radiographic findings in patients with allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA), probable ABPA, and asthmatic controls. Chest radiographs and high-resolution CT images were evaluated in 19 patients with documented ABPA and 18 asthmatic controls. Ten patients with probable ABPA were also…
  • Radiology of esophagitis: a pattern approach. [Review]
    Radiology. 1991 Apr; 179(1):1-7.Levine MS
  • This article presents a pattern approach for diagnosing esophagitis at double-contrast esophagography. In patients with nodular elevations of the mucosa, discrete plaques should suggest Candida esophagitis, whereas poorly defined nodules should suggest reflux esophagitis and a distinctive reticular pattern of the mucosa should suggest Barrett esophagus, particularly if adjacent to the distal aspe…
  • Carcinoma of the esophagus simulating "downhill" varices. [Case Reports]
    Radiat Med. 1987 May-Jun; 5(3):83-5.Itoh H, Ohtani H, … Ohgushi N
  • A case of esophageal carcinoma which showed an upper mediastinal mass shadow on plain chest X-ray film and varicoid lesions on esophagogram is reported. The findings seemed compatible with "downhill" varices, an unusual form of esophageal varices caused by superior vena caval obstruction. In this case, contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CE-CT) was useful for the differential diagnosis between…
  • Barrett carcinoma of the esophagus: clinical and radiographic analysis of 34 cases. [Journal Article]
AJR Am J Roentgenol. 1985 Jul; 145(1):41-6.Agha FP
  • Review of 34 cases of pathologically proved Barrett-type adenocarcinoma of the esophagus seen at the University of Michigan during 1962-1983 revealed that it constituted 5% of all carcinomas of the esophagus and 20% of all adenocarcinomas involving the esophagus during that period. Despite many similarities to conventional squamous cell carcinoma and gastric cardiac carcinoma, certain distinguish…
  • Carcinoma of the esophagus: assessment of submucosal extent. [Case Reports]
J Can Assoc Radiol. 1982 Sep; 33(3):154-7.Cho SR, Schneider V, … Shirazi KK
  • Submucosal extension of carcinoma of the esophagus is common, often presenting as a varicoid pattern on the esophagogram. Forty-two per cent of our 153 patients with carcinoma of the esophagus showed area(s) of a varicoid pattern in association with the other usual pattern(s) (fungating, ulcerating or infiltrating). A few of the patients have findings similar to those associated with esophageal v…
  • Varicoid carcinoma of the esophagus. [Case Reports]
Radiology. 1977 Mar; 122(3):605-8.Yates CW, LeVine MA, Jensen KM
  • Two cases of varicoid carcinoma of the esophagus are presented and differentiation from the similar findings in esophageal varices is emphasized. Radiographically, distinction must be made on the basis of changeability of the configuration of the wall with positional change and alterations in the respiratory pattern, a characteristic feature of varices. Endoscopically, no change is seen in varico…
  • Chemical synovectomy with Varicocid in rheumatoid arthritis--further results. [Journal Article]
    Scand J Rheumatol. 1977; 6(1):28-32.Kästner P, Wessel G
  • Varicoid was administered to 170 patients with rheumatoid arthritis, to 11 patients with a diagnostically uncertain monarthritis, to 12 patients with exudative gonarthrosis and also to 4 patients with lupus erythematodes visceralis. A total of 262 joints were treated. The short-term results, which were evaluated 4 weeks after the administration of Varicocid, revealed improvement is 95% of the pat…
  • [Varicoid carcinoma of oesophagus (author's transl)]. [Case Reports]
    J Radiol Electrol Med Nucl. 1976 Jun-Jul; 57(6-7):517-9.Jouve P, Pin G, … Burger G
  • Two cases of diffuse squamous cell carcinoma of the oesophagus simulating the roentgenographic appearance of oesophageal varices are presented. Careful fluoroscopic examination may permit accurate diagnosis; however if the lesions are equivocally demonstrated by X-ray examination, oesophagoscopy confirms the diagnosis of carcinoma. R94.
